“Nice rooms, terrible bathrooms and hospitality”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2013

We stayed at the San Domenico for three nights. Siena is an amazing city and is not to be missed. While the location of this hotel is great, they desperately need to remodel their bathrooms. The bathroom flooded multiple times and it made it terrible to shower. Our friends stayed down the hall and had the exact same issues. While the rooms are huge and the views are amazing, there are many other options in the city center for this same price. Also, the included "breakfast" is actually a few yogurts and packaged croissants that they left in our room for us. They were stale and gross. The front desk person was barely around and when she was, not helpful at all. It appears to be dorm style living for students as well.

We were an easy walk from the bus station, and the two main attractions for us, the Duomo of Siena and the gigantic Piazza Il Campo. We wanted to see them by day and by night. Little did we know that one of the most breathtaking views of the beautiful Duomo would be from our hotel window. Daniella and Claudio were very welcoming and Claudio carried our luggage up the long dark stairs, for which we were grateful! The room was large and furnished with a rustic elegance. I can believe that this was once the home of a large and prosperous family of old Siena. Our room was well-appointed with some interesting touches, like a whimsical ceiling fresco. The kitchen was fine and the breakfast of yogurt, juice and packaged pastries was adequete. We were charmed by the ambience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Duomo (which will be quieter than a room on the street side.)

My huisband and I atyed there for 2 nights on our honeymoon. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The view from our room was beautiful! There is an espresso maker in your room for coffee in the morning. There is also a "kitchenette" in one of the closets, which was nice. We were able to make dinner and a good breakfast there. The staff are great! Even though they speak very little English, we were able to communiacte alright. Daniella even helped us book a wine tour. Great place to stay!

My family stayed for two nights. We were in a quad room facing Via della Sapienza. The property is in a convenient location and a short walk from the bus terminal.

The property is within a building that also contains various offices and perhaps other residences. You buzz to enter into a dark and somewhat uninviting space, then walk up the stairs to get to the property.

The room itself has all the character of an old building. Very tall ceilings with a more recently built loft that contains two double beds. The floor could use a cleaning but the bath, towels and bedding are all very clean. The free wireless internet works fine. Our room was pretty noisy since it faced the street.

Please be aware - the property doesn't really meet the standard of what one typically thinks of as a bed and breakfast. It is more like an apartment rental. There is no breakfast served and there is no daily housekeeping service. The room included a small but serviceable kitchen contained in a large cabinet, kind of like what one would find in an RV. The room was stocked with some packaged baked goods, cereals, milk, coffee and tea.

The couple that runs the property does not speak much English, but can communicate quite well in English via text msg. Also don't expect the property to be staffed throughout the day. We met with the very nice woman who checked us in, but did not see anyone else again throughout our stay.

If you are looking for a clean, relatively inexpensive place and don't need pampering, this place works well.

We had booked a room and paid a deposit 2 months out from our visit to Siena. When we arrived we waited for over half an hour and then had to speak to someone over the phone (as the receptionist spoke no English) who told us they had double booked and there were no rooms. There were lots of people arriving that were told the same thing (at least 4 other groups). We had to seek other accommodation. Do not stay here unless you want to risk it being double booked.

Just fantastic. Located in an old, rustic building with winding stairways. Our room was huge and unique and we had a fantastic view of Sienna. Would highly recommend this B&B to my friends and would definately not look for any other place to stay if I return to Sienna someday.

For a large but poorly marked building, the Residenza provides surprisingly comfortable accomodations for its otherwise moastical appearance. Somewhat sparse in appearance the rooms have most amenities, including a fridge and stove to store leftovers. Location is very convenient, though Siena is small, its a short walk from just about eveything with a great gelateria and restaurants nearby. Very large room and very comfortable bed, though the queen was 2 twin mattresses pushed together. The staff doesn't speak much english but communication just happens in Italy. :)
