Campo Regio Relais provided the feeling of living in a flat in Siena with the convenience and service of a fine B&B/hotel. The hosts were perhaps the most friendly, helpful people I have ever encountered in the hospitality industry - no exaggeration. For instance, after taking our bags from the rented Audi A6 (a big car for Siena's streets) a young man named Giovanni road with me to the public garage to make sure I arrived safely, dealt with the parking workers in Italian and walked back to the hotel with me. Mary Louisa made excellent recommendations for dinner at local neighborhood restaurants. CRP has 5 rooms, each of which is unique; we booked a suite with a barreled roof that looked out the back and a smaller room for our two teenaged sons that looked out onto the surprisingly quiet street. The view from our suite, and the terrace one floor above, was spectacular: the Duomo was on a hill directly a half-mile away; the Basilica Domenico was a few hundred yards to the right; and the valley flowed out in between. A lovely continental breakfast was served in the mornings, and the public lounge and terrace were open all day and night (with an honor bar, books to read, etc.). The only downside to the hotel was rather poor WIFI reception in the rooms. It would be an ideal location for a romantic stay, or a small family like ours.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Campo Regio Relais is a historic hotel in a building called Bastone del Pappagallo (16th Century), located in one of the ancient buildings within the historical centre of Siena. It can be found on Via della Sapienza, one of the main streets of medieval Siena, hosting both the University of Siena and the Academy of the Intronati. Its distinction is that it opens up to one of the most breathtaking views of the city in which the windows and the terraces reflect the ambient surroundings. The central position of the Relais allows guests to easily reach the most important monuments of the city; the main square, Piazza del Campo, the Duomo, and the museums that house the masterpieces of Siennese art. Campo Regio Relais is also perfect as a base from which you can discover the medieval towns and villages that surround Siena. ... more less
