Wonderful hotel
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 12 Jul 2017
My wife & I stayed here over the 2nd weekend in July for 4 nights.

We arrived several hours before check in, with no warning, and room was ready for us.

The welcome was warm and the room was brilliant, we stayed in the Deluxe which has beautiful views across the countryside and the town.

The location is brilliant, staff very friendly & helpful, breakfast is good, rooms very well done.

POSITIVES
+ great location
+ spotlessly clean
+ friendly, welcoming, helpful staff
+ well equipped
+ lovely terrace with stunning views for breakfast / chill out

IMPROVEMENTS
- room needed a few more power outlets

Can't go wrong with this place. As a bonus it even has a restaurant below it which we thought dished up our best meal in Siena!!

We have just returned from a four day visit to Siena. Having identified the Villa del Sole, we were not disappointed with our choice. The Villa del Sole is very modern, is located in a quiet residential area of the city but is only a 5-10 minute stroll from the historic Campo and Torre del Mangia.

My wife and I stayed in a Superior room and a friend of ours, who was travelling with us, stayed in a Standard room. Our room had good air conditioning, a large comfortable double bed with a modern bathroom and shower enclosure. A small flight of steps led to an upper area where another bed was situated. This would maybe suit people travelling as a family but I would consider the stairs in the room to be too steep for families with very young children.

The standard room had a similar sized bed and facilities but looked more spacious than ours. That may have been due to the flight of stairs in our room. Both rooms were excellent and more than acceptable to us.

As the weather was very warm during our stay, we were able to take breakfast on the terrace at the rear of the building. The terrace had stunning views of the city in the foreground and Eastern Tuscany in the far distance. Breakfast consisted of a wide range meats, yoghurts, cereals, cheeses, tomatoes, croissants etc. More than sufficient to see three hungry tourists through to lunch.

The staff at the hotel were all very helpful and professional. If we had wanted, Gianluca had offered us various tours of the local area but as this was our first time in Siena and had only four days, we did not have time to see more of the countryside.

We were very impressed with Siena and the city is currently gearing up for the first Palio which takes place early July. The city is split into 17 districts (contradas) and we were delighted to see one group walking past the Palazzo Publicco dressed in their medieval costumes and drumming or waving flags. The Torre del Mangia is worth climbing as you get some stunning views of the city and surrounding countryside. Some of the steps are quite narrow but the effort is worthwhile.

There are many places to eat near the hotel. There is a restaurant at the hotel itself called Tartufo which is worth a visit if you like your food served in the nouvelle cuisine style or if you were celebrating a special occasion. If your wallet is not very flexible, Malborghetto in Via Porta di Giustizia (a few minutes walk from the hotel) and Osteria la Sosta di Violante in Via Pantaneto are also worth visiting.

We would have no hesitation recommending the Villa del Sole and would hope to return in the future.

We had the most delicious pasta with truffle! A great restaurant from where you can enjoy the view a bit outside of the centre. I would advise this to anyone looking for a nice place to eat in Siena. Very friendly staff as well. Only open for a few months, and certainly ready to stay!

This hotel has a great location close to city centre only 5 min walk to the square but still in a quiet area with less cars and less tourists ( so best of both worlds!) nice views from the balcony on the city especially sunsets. Beautiful building and interiors of rooms nicely done! Friendly and helpful staff!

of course its the cities policy not to allow cars in the centre, but no worries, the hotel helps you very nicely, you can drive up to the hotel and drop your bags then you have the option to park for free yourself outside of the city gates or pay a fee and they park the car for you.

The breakfast is tasty and fresh but quite simple! Drinking water is always available for free and you can take it yourself in bottles from the common area, this is a great idea!

Wifi connection is poor in the room
No bar of soap provided in the bathroom.

Claudio and Jean Luca were the most wonderful proprietors. The hotel is only 3 or 4 years old, but I believe it is in an old Siena building that had been beautifully restored. It is located within the Siena walls just a five minute walk below the Campo (main square). Siena involves walking up hill no matter where you stay. This one was very convenient to everything.
The breakfast was good, especially the coffee. It was warm enough that we could eat outside every morning on the very nice terrace.
Our room was great. There are no room numbers but we were on the main floor at the end of the hall next to the front desk. The views were great from our room and the terrace as one could look across and see Siena and the unfinished part of the duomo.
We had the room with the white sofa, I think deluxe. I always upgrade my room in Europe to have some space. Room was very comfortable.

Room tip: Room with the white sofa.

A superb small and bespoke hotel. Reception exceptionally helpful - with ideas to share and where we wanted to book restaurants, concert tickets, taxi etc - all done quickly and efficiently. Room and ensuite were the cleanest I've experienced. Breakfast self service with breathtaking views if you chose to breakfast al fresco. A few minutes from the centre of the old town but beautifully silent with only the birds and very faint distant melody of musicians practising their instruments in the afternoon. Perfect location. The bed was very very comfortable. We ate at the hotel restaurant one evening and the food was incredible, dining outside with views across the entire valley send beyond. Not the cheapest place to stay but you absolutely get what you pay for here - and more besides. If I return Siena I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

Room tip: We had an upstairs deluxe room with windows you could open to the front of the intimate hotel
