In précis lets get the cost out the way. We payed 177 euro last night for 2 people for a 5 course meal with a wine paired to each course which was served over 3 hours.

It is a 20 seat resteraunt with the owner/ chef serving you with 1 sous chef and prep assistant in the kitchen. It is a set menu with no pricing or menu come to mention it.

Superlative food. Every course exceptional with the asparagus risotto out of this world. I have never enjoyed risotto until last night.

Old school decor with some amazing artworks on the wall.

Excellent local wines served with each dish.

It is an experience. Relax into it. Reading some other comments in trip advisor this food in our humble opinion, is worthy of a star and price wise was significantly less expensive, when taking consideration of what you receive, of any of the Michelin * resteraunts we have dined in recently.

For a romantic meal for 2 with exceptional service, this has been our best experience to date. We will return to sienna to eat here again

“Lovely restaurant but overpriced for what you get”
Reviewed 9 October 2011

We went to the restaurant recommended by a friend. It is a very special experience since the restaurant just serves up one menu each evening, which has the advantage of everything being fresh, home cooked food. The service is terrific and the food is very good. While we enjoyed the evening, we felt the price/value relationship just wasn't there for us. We enjoyed many other meals as much if not more, and we did not enjoy the lack of choice for the dining selection.

“Fantastic”
Reviewed 18 September 2011

We found this restaurant in the Rough Guide Italy book, and wanted a nice meal for our Saturday night in Siena. And a fantastic meal it was! It was a nice place, although it was a bit strange as we sat alone for more than half an hour before anyone else came. But the atmosphere was cosy, and the food fantastic. Even though it is expensive, I think a 5-course meal would end up almost as expensive in other good restaurants in Tuscany, we just normally don't order 5 courses...

“A very charming rip off”
Reviewed 15 September 2011

I really looked forward to this dinner after recommendation from a friend (who ate there a few years ago) and other TA reviews. The owner Paolo and his daughter are very charming and helpful. The meal was a simple Tuscan one: antipasti, porcini soup, risotto, beef and rabbit, meringue with cream. Actually very little cooking required.
There are no prices on show. There is no wine list- just bottles brought out and prices quoted.
The bill? 75 euro plus 6 euro cover charge per head!! Wine was a nice bottle of Montepulciano for 75 euro- I saw the exact same bottle in another restaurant for 33 euro a few nights later. I can have top notch Michelin star food at home for less than this and Cane e Gatto could not be described as in that league.
This was an enjoyable experience with charming hosts, but quite simply a rip off. Con artists are often charming I suppose.

Nice and cosy restaurant, perfectly suited for couples. Far off the strip where most tourists dwell, which is good
