This hotel is in a great location. It is within walking distance to St Clare's Church and St Francis' Basilica. The view is breathtaking from the balconies. The area is peaceful and relaxing. The room was very clean and the staff pleasant. Breakfast was the usual European breakfast. The bar area was fun and nice to sit out on the open terrace.

If you want a hotel within walking distance of everything in Siena, yet quiet and with an incredible view of the Tuscan countryside, a welcoming, helfpul, and friendly staff, and a great breakfast, stay here.

Location, location, location - next to Porta San Francesco and the main Unita D'Italia car park!! I stayed here 4 nights, Room 21, 29 Dec to 2 Jan 2014 at EUR70/night single incl BF (Bkg.com) - obviously over busy NYE period.

I originally booked Hotel Minerva, almost across the road from HWS. When I arrived at Minerva, they allocated me a room facing a stone wall despite that their Booking.com site mentioned all rooms had a view over the spectacular valley below Assisi. As the hotel was full, they could not change rooms. Be warned and ask the question when booking. No point to stay in Assisi without availing yourself of this unbelievable view each morning. I left Minerva and found this hotel with fabulous uninterrupted 180 degree view and gorgeous Juliet balcony for only EUR10 more. It was amazing to see the fog at 7am during winter lift to reveal magical sunny day.

It was really easy to catch the small bus from the Assisi FS (also known as Santa Maria degli Angeli) train station up to the main town/car park - in fact, the bus was waiting for the train to arrive - you just need to buy your ticket at the Edicola (Newspaper shop) inside the train station before you board (EUR1.30). I asked the taxi driver the cost of the fare up to town - he said EUR15 - but honestly, the bus is so easy and the bus stop at the main car park is virtually outside the HWS - you don't need to spend this money.

HWS is located at the main Unita D'Italia car park directly below Basilica di San Francesco - it has a gob-smacking valley view but you only get a small glimpse of the Basilica from the Hotel. I had a friendly check-in from Adel the PM Receptionist, he is 10/10 and was an excellent host. The morning staff - presumably the Owners of this family-run business were somewhat unfriendly almost bordering rude. That was a pity. I guess they figure I wont be back or tell anyone. Pity I go to Italy once or twice a year and usually to return to my favourite towns many times ... summer and winter.

The building itself is lovely old stone palazzo and has been a hotel since around 1908. Honestly, I would prefer a newer hotel but I could see that all the properties on the edge of the town with the fabulous view are all old and I expect all dated. There was, however, something very cute and quaint about going back in time while in Assisi - it kinda' suited the town.

The single room (single bed) was very spacious, full minibar but old bathroom (incl my pet hate - the shower curtain). Lots of hot water in winter though. Very 1960s décor. NYE is of course peak time - I definitely would not pay more than EUR50-60 in any other time though.

B/fast was 7-10am with a good variety of self-serve items but no hot food. I had to laugh at guest who bought the dog to b/f ... only in bella italia ... too funny.

A set menu dinner was available for EUR20 in the dining room, a huge magnificent room - a la days gone - also with that spectacular valley view. There is a very handy Café on the lower floor which catches the afternoon sun in winter and lovely to sit from 1-4pm (and prices were really reasonable - cappuccino EUR2, pastry EUR1).

Would I go back ... probably not. I need a more modern place to feel good on holidays.

Room Tip: Ask for valley view room, top floor with a balcony.

We had lunch at this Assisi hotel, and were seated in an immense dining room with a wall of windows overlooking the valley. The food was good, views tranquil, and the service fast and efficient. Assisi is such a charming town, and this dining experience only added to our fond memories.

I enjoyed and appreciated my stay at the Hotel Windsor Savoia. It is very centrally located in Assisi. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The morning buffet breakfasts were generous, varied and tasty. There was a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere in the hotel.

I've traveled to many countries around the world, but none have the quaintness and tranquility of Assisi. The hotel is up on a hill with an incredible view of the mountains and valleys. The Stone hotel is quiet and charming, and the staff is very attentive. We had a wonderful family style dinner which was prepared with local ingredients and very delicious. The staff at the hotel is superb. I left a pair of shoes in my room, and they were able to locate them, and send them to me in the states. This is a fine place to stay in Assisi, and I would recommend it to others in their travels. Hope to return soon!

Room Tip: The rooms are large and quiet. The room and bathroom was impeccably clean. The staff is very attent...
