The only pleasant part of staying at this hotel was its location. You are literally across the street from the Cathedral of St. Claire and a piazza with a valley view that is spectacular. That being said, we would not stay at this hotel again. My husband and I had an old room in the back that overlooked an alley. We traveled with a group of family & friends, and those who had rooms facing the piazza said while the view was great, the loud noise from large groups of visitors went late into the night and prevented them from sleeping well. (We heard the loud shouts of groups of visitors even past midnight from the back of the hotel!). There was no air conditioning in the room, only a strange set up of an AC in the hallway that we learned was shut off at night. So during the day you came off a small elevator that fit either 2 people or 1 person and luggage, felt the AC in the hallway, then entered your hot room. The fan in the ceiling was controlled by a remote. Upon arrival, the battery in our remote was dead. When we called the desk about it, a woman did come up to replace the remote with another one, but the noise from the fan rotating when turned on was extremely loud, except for the lowest setting, which did next to nothing to cool the room. The double bed took up about 90% of the room. You could not walk around the bed without stepping sideways. Forget two people trying to pass in the room. It was just not possible. But the worst part of the room was the tiny old bathroom. You stepped up into the bathroom with a miniscule sink directly on your left, then next step walked through two shower curtains that made perhaps a 14" X 14" space between them for you to shower directly onto the floor, then took your third and final step and you were at the toilet and bidet. When you took a shower between the 2 curtains,, everything in the room became wet and the water backed up on the entire floor, despite towels all around. We tried to sleep with the shutters open, but the loud street noise prevented that. So we closed the shutters, put the fan on the lowest speed because of the loud noise, and simply sweat the entire night. At one point we tried to go out into the hallway just to escape the heat, but they shut the AC off at night. Some in our travel party said they had modern bathrooms. This place, at the very least, needs to modernize their bathrooms. It was by far one of the most uncomfortable rooms we have ever stayed in! Our small group had 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners in the hotel. Food was adequate but nothing more. We would visit beautiful Assisi again in a heartbeat, but not stay here.
