This is just off the main square in Assisi. It is clean and the rooms are a good size. Breakfast is OK ( tends to be the same choice every day and there is a reliaince on machines for dispensing coffee, tea and even yogurt!) . Staff are helpful. There are lots of people passing through as Assisi seems to be a place for one night stop overs for tour groups.

Room Tip: Ask for one on the top floor, corner

The location of the hotel was great. The staff helpful and attentive. Our superior room was spacious and clean and had a small refrigerator which was welcomed. The beds were pretty uncomfortable though. A breakfast served in the basement restaurant was tasty and well prepared with a large selection. Our shower hose leaked but was fixed without our having to ask. All in all, we are not dissatisfied with the Hotel Dei Priori and would probably return. A hot water pot in the rooms to make morning coffee would be a very welcomed addition.

Room Tip: The superior rooms give you a little more room to maneuver and are furnished with a comfortable chai...

We started planning a trip to Italy last April of 2013 and made reservations for two superior rooms at Hotel Dei Priori. When we arrived on March 8, they had given our two rooms away and stated that there was trouble with the rooms and sent us to another hotel (which was great with an incredible view) and told us we needed to come back the next day and our rooms would be ready. We were told by the other hotel that they overbooked. When we returned the next day, the rooms given us were average with leaky shower sprays that ran down onto the floor and a very unstable banister that dangerously led to the bed upstairs. The location was great, but I would not recommend this hotel due to the lack of consideration. They had our credit card number so the rooms should have been ours. All said and done, we did enjoy the substitute hotel, Fontebella much better.

We had a group of people traveling with us and had over 6 rooms. As others have said, the location of the hotel was perfect. You couldn't ask for better. It really allows you to access restaurants and shopping without difficulty. The hotel itself needs some work- which they are clearly doing and none too soon. There is some great potential there. An elevator is a real necessity in this hotel so hopefully it will be fixed soon. All of our rooms were on the 2nd floor-mine was with a street view which was nice. For some reason our room smelled like someone had been smoking in there and the only way to get rid of the smell was to keep the windows open. The bathroom was small even for Italy standards. Biggest issue was the staff. Some of them were great and others were downright rude. We were on the go and didn't spend too much time in the rooms so all in all it was a good place to stay. One thing to keep in mind if you want quiet is that the bell in the tower in the Piazza chimes every half hour in the evening and in the morning. It was charming and we got used to it but if you are a light sleeper it could be bothersome.

The Dei Priori is a 3-star hotel just off Piazza del Commune, in the absolute heart of Assisi. Work is going on there, and if they think by it they can gain another star, I think they are on the right track. The elevator is being replaced; they are moving away from room keys to cards; bathrooms are being upgraded in a lovely and practical way, and the staff is delightful.
What might keep them from that extra star might be their size. It is a cozy, rather than an expansive, establishment. This limits things like bar service and breakfast service. But the rooms themselves (I just spent 2 nights in #101) are ample, well appointed and bright. The bed is really wonderful. I had small quibbles: the low battery made my room safe unworkable, and in spite of the fact of having a router IN my room, I couldn't hold a WIFI signal (things were fine in the lobby and bar). But these issues pawl in importance considering everything else, especially the location.
Treat yourselves to this hotel the next time you come to visit St Francis!

We stayed for a week on a holiday to Assisi and the surrounding are with Voyage Jules Verne. The hotel is just off the central piazza of Assisi and midway between the Basilicas of St Francis and St Clare. Position could not be better. It is amazing to be able to walk out into the medieval city after all the day visitors have left.
Our room was a good size with a large, comfortable double bed. The bathroom was compact, but recently modernised to include a surprisingly large shower and a bidet. We were on the street side, but could not open the wooden shutters to see out. It was not noisy.
The restaurant/breakfast room is in the basement and there is no lift down to it. So it is impossible for a wheelchair user to get to it. Breakfasts were typical for Italy. Hot food was just scrambled egg, sausage and potatoes, which was OK. There was a good choice of fruit, cereals and cold meats, and lots of cakes.
We had lunch twice in the restaurant next to the hotel, which looks like a shop selling ham and cheese, with a few tables. We recommend this, especially the cold meat platters and salads. Portions are large and it is acceptable to share. Later we asked to see the menu for the hotel's restaurant and discovered it was the same: the restaurant meals are prepared in the hotel kitchen.
Special mention is due to all the staff, who were very friendly and helpful. Most spoke good English.

Assisi is a wonderful destination, and this hotel enhances that experience. The location is great. We enjoyed opening the window and watching and listening to the people gathering and shopping. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was smallish, but charming and well-appointed. The view from the window was photo-worthy. We were only there for one night, so did not have an opportunity to experience the restaurant. Next time, we will spend multiple days in Assisi at the Hotel Dei Priori.
