The owners of La Cuccagna are very friendly and welcoming and give plenty of useful advice on where to go, what to see, how to get there etc. They also know all the child friendly restaurants and where to find playgrounds. We enjoyed sightseeing the neighbouring towns which are all within easy reach. The facilities at La Cuccagna were excellent, the highlight was the 'endless horizon' swimming pool, which overlooks an amazing view of the surrounding hills. We would definitely like to return for another holiday here :0)

We went to La Cuccagna looking for a relaxing two week break to unwind, enjoy the food, the scenery and soak up the atmosphere. Sal and Sarah are the most hospitable hosts with a degree of service you would not expect from a self catering property. They were never intrusive but always on hand for help with local knowledge, booking restaurants or excursions. Their friendly, warm and easy going attitude made us feel at home immediately.

La Cuccagna is set in a beautiful location perched on the edge of the valley with panoramic views across the valley and towards Perugia, which can be seen while taking a swim in the infinity pool which juts out into the scenery. The position of the house at the top of the valley gives a sense of being 'away from it all' while still being within easy reach of some of Umbrias most beautiful medieval hill top towns and 'must see' destinations.

The house itself and La Stalletta, the separate self catering converted barn in which we stayed are set in landscaped gardens with borders of lavendar and herbs which are evolving naturally under Sal and Sarahs care.

La Stalletta is a restored and converted traditional stone building which provides the perfect accommodation for two with a well equipped kitchen for those who like to cook (the first we've stayed in with a decent set of sharp knives) and a west facing terrace for dining while watching the sun set over the breathtaking views over the hills at the head of the valley. The rooms are simple and spotlessly clean with shutters on each room to keep out the mid day sun.

We hope to be able to return soon and would thoroughly recommend La Cuccagna to anyone.

My husband and I stumbled across La Cuccagna after it was recommended to us by friends who had stayed there previously. We were making our way through Italy after our flights had been cancelled during the Icelandic volcanic ash fiasco. When we arrived we couldn't believe our luck. The drive up to the converted farmhouse through the Umbrian hillside was incredible with beautiful uninterrupted scenary over Umbria and Tuscany for miles and miles. The couple who run the place: Sarah and Salvatore were such friendly, welcoming and generous hosts. They made us feel at home immediately and were on hand to give us any help and advice we needed throughout our stay.

The Cuccagna is perched on the hillside with breathtaking views over the countryside and a fabulous infinity pool. The farmhouse has been sympathetically and very stylishly restored. We stayed in a bedroom in the farmhouse on the ground floor. The bedroom and ensuite bathroom were spacious and spotlessly clean and the bed was so comfortable. After travelling through Italy and sleeping in so many different hotels and guesthouses it was fantastic to sleep in a comfy bed with proper, crisp new bedding! In the mornings we woke to the fabulous views and sat outside enjoying a coffee on the private terrace outside our room overlooking the valley. Highly recommended!

Our two weeks at La Cuccagna was one of the best holiodays we've ever had in over 35 years. The location, tucked a away in the Umbrian hills, gave us spectacular views of the countryside. To admire the views from the beautiful infinity pool was extremely relaxing.

The accommodation is first-class. Sarah and Sal have been meticulous in creating this ideal retreat, even making sure that the beds are just about the most comfortable we've ever experienced. Typical Italian breakfasts were always something to anticipate - complete with home-made jam and marmalade.

Above all was Sarah and Sal's desire to help us enjoy our stay. They were able to point us in the direction of some superb local restarants, advise us on where to park in nearby towns, and to suggest the best way to visit Perugia (by a 25-minute train journey at a cost of only two Eros return). They were a mine of i nformation with maps and advice.

La Cuccagna is a destination we shall return to at the earliest opportunity. Brilliant holiday.

From the moment we arrived, we received 5 star treatment. Sal and Sarah are excellent hosts and go out of their way to ensure total enjoyment - nothing is too much trouble for them. Beautiful stone farmhouse, the en-suite bedrooms are very comfortable and full of character and we knew instantly that we had made the right choice for our holiday. Fabulous swimming pool with fantastic views. We were also supplied with pool towels on arrival.
The breakfast is really first class - 5 star.

We can't wait to go back.

We chose La Cuccagna as a base for a relaxing family holiday exploring the towns and hills of northern Umbria. What we found was the most welcoming of hosts, the most perfect views and a well equipped self catering cottage.

The location was perfect, only 20 minutes from Perugia airport, yet feeling totally remote up in the hills between Perugia and Gubbio. We were able to easily visit the local towns of Gubbio, Assisi & Perugia all within 40 minutes relaxing drive.

We had chosen the self catering "Cow Shed" which was well equipped for all our cooking needs, was beautifully clean and had a veranda with the most beautiful views over the valleys and we had not even seen the pool yet. The infinity pool is the gem of La Cuccagna, nestled into the hillside with views over the whole valley.

But the best bit of our stay were the hosts. Incredibly welcoming they couldn't do enough for us, they had great knowledge of the area and looked after us all as if we were family. We even got to experience some of Sal's cooking on the barbecue, he is also known to stoke up the open air pizza oven and put on a pizza night.

A perfect location to be based to access the hidden gems of the Umbrian countryside.

I had the very great pleasure and delight to visit La Cuccagna twice in 2009. The first time was an unseasonally warm long weekend in May and the second time was an unseasonally cool long weekend in September! It was wonderful to be able to go back after only a few months and see the changes that Sal and Sarah had made.
My first trip we stayed in the main house, where the bedrooms and bathrooms are well furnished keeping a traditional feel. My second trip we stayed in the Cow Shed. This has a slightly more elevated position than the main house and the views were spectacular morning and in particularly in the evening when you can watch the sun setting.
The area around La Cuccagna has plenty to offer with Gubbio being our favourite destination. We also managed to get in a game of golf (thanks to help from Sal and his research), with a superb course overlooked by an old imposing monastery, spectacular!
Don’t just take my word for it, visit yourself as I will definitely be visiting again and I can’t wait to see how much it has changed from the last time.
