Not one of the more popular Italian lakes, but we enjoyed the visit and both our campsite and the local town were very attractive

We drove to Passignano sul Trasimeno - it was quiet. The lake has an island which you can visit but we did not. Probably you could spend a couple of hours there having a coffee or visiting one of the restaurants but really the town had little going for it and the lake was just that - a big lake!

The Trasimeno region is a wonderful place to stay, the location is perfect to visit effortlessly a lot of destinations, both locally and in the near Tuscany. You will see incredible nature, medieval towns on every hill crown it like the gems of a jewel. Local food is amazing and don't miss the chance to taste the local wine also.

While Lago Trasmeno does not have the exotic mountains surrounding it like Lago di Como or some of the other northern Italian lakes, it has it own charm and generally lacks the crowds of foreign tourists. We have particularly enjoyed visiting the towns of Passignano sul Trasimeno on the east side of the lake and Castiglione del Lago on the western shore. Both towns have nice streets to wander through, interesting shops and good restaurants. We especially like watching the sunset over the lake from the hills above the eastern shore. The view plus a glass of prosecco make a wonderful start to an evening.

Gorgeous lake. We arrived there (Passignano) on May 1, a holiday and enjoyed strolling the boardwalk with all the locals out for the day. Trip to island of Maggiore is also nice, but most things closed when we were there. Only one restuarant and can't tour fort.
