“Superb Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014

We stayed in room 236 for 5 nights in April, having been upgraded to a deluxe room with a balcony overlooking the Umbrian countryside. The room itself was huge, with traditional padded gold wallpaper and with floor to ceiling double doors opening on to a juliette balcony. We arrived to a generous complimentary fruit bowl and bottle of local red wine. the bed was a king in size, but was actually two smaller beds joined together. Bed linen was pristine. Unlike other reviewers, we had turn down every night, complete with weather forecast and mints. We asked for softer pillows, which arrived within minutes of our request.

The large marble bathroom had a shower over the bath, bidet, huge fluffy towels, bathrobes and slippers. Toiletries were of an excellent standard and topped up twice a day. Our only issue was the usual European shower getting the whole bathroom soaked thing, but in a building as old as this, there must be restrictions on what they can do. There was a glass door on the side of the bath, but it seemed to be fairly ineffective. We also struggled to work the taps out, but that was most likely our own ineptitude.

The breakfast room was magnificent. On our first morning, we gave our room number and Lucio knew our name - most impressive! There was a huge selection of food, from fresh and tinned fruits, yoghurts, cereals, breads, cold meats, fresh ricotta, superb, fresh pastries of all descriptions. Hot food was largely scrambled eggs, panchetta and local sausage - all superbly cooked and kept hot. As other reviewers have noted, there was no fresh orange juice, which is unusual for a hotel of this standard and coffee was rather hit an miss - cappucino was always spot on for flavour etc but sometimes less than luke warm We understand it is not supposed to be hot, but it could be tepid at best. All that said, service was unfailingly excellent and none of these minor issues detracted from our pleasure at all.

We only used the front desk on a couple of occasions, but each time the service was swift and professional.

The downstairs spa area was fantastic. The pool area was almost ethereal in nature, really peaceful and clean.

Location of the hotel couldn't be bettered. It was two minutes to the main square, opposite the escalators to the bus station, 5 minutes from the mini metro. There was a supermarket a couple of minutes away too for water etc should you need it.

All in all, we loved it and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, get a room with a balcony and view

This is the place to stay for the old town of Perugia. It is an ideal base to discover the medieval streets and history of this lovely old city. The hotel is very welcoming, very clean and comfortable. My room (236) had a nice balcony overlooking the beautiful Umbrian countryside, it is well worth the few extra pounds. It is like living in a palazzo for a few days. My thanks to all the staff who were all polite and professional, helping us with all our questions. Steffano was on hand most of the time and also a special thanks to Lucio who looked after us in the restaurant. The wi-fi was free, you originally get 1 hour however free top ups of 3 hours were also available. Parking in the garage is 20 a day. Breakfast was plentiful, it is true the juice is not freshly squeezed however the hot choices of sausage, scrambled egg and bacon was kept fresh. The underground swimming area is fabulously atmospheric, there is a small sauna and steam room plus a few jog machines. Public transport is easy to use, the mini metro takes you down to the main train station in a few minutes for 1.50, it is a clean and efficient way to travel. Local restaurants try La Tavernna and Il Cantinone. Brufani for your stay in Perugia is highly recommended.

Room Tip: Try second floor rooms with the balcony

Very lucky to have a stunning view from our balcony (double room), so request it if not specified in your booking. Perfect location at the top and in the heart of Perugia. Staff are very helpful and the rooms are clean and well maintained. Be aware; parking is 20e per night.

Wonderful stay! Hurray! (Didn't try the G+T)

Room Tip: There are two views. City and Mountains. Both are amazing but you want to be high up (we were on the...

My young son and I booked this hotel without too much forethought or research, we were staying just the one night and moving on. It was wonderful, real charm, history and the underground swimming pool is something my little boy still talks about a year later. The rooms are very well decorated and maintained. Food excellent and the service impeccable. We are going to stay 2 nights this year on our way to friends.

I strongly recommend this beautiful hotel to everybody who would like to stay in Perugia! I stayed there 2 weeks ago and it was fantastic! The staff of the hotel was professional and polite, they handled my requests professionally and helped me in everything. My room (junior suite) was very comfortable because it had a large living room area, a big bedroom and a beautiful bathroom including bath and shower, too. I was pleased with the dining, as well! The breakfast was really rich and the dinners were also very various and delicious. Beside the quality of the hotel services, the other positive thing which I have to note, is the location of the hotel! Fantastic, becasue it is located on the top of Perugia town with magnificent view to the valley! But at the same time the centre of Perugia is also very closed to the hotel, approx. 5-10 minutes walking distance. So if you plan to travel to this beautiful region of Italy, don't miss this unique hotel in Perugia! :)

Perugia is a great place for a weekend visit with its history (museum, art collection, ancient city centre) nearby chocolate factory, where you can make your own professional chocolates under supervision of an expert chocolatier, and Assissi with its magnificent basilica and tomb of St Francis. THE place to stay in Perugia is the Brufani Palace, a 5 star luxury hotel in the very centre of town with views over the valley. The food and service are exceptional. They seem to use truffles like we English use salt! Rooms are large and spacious and the rates were exceptional value for a hotel of this standard. I will definitely be going back soon.

Room Tip: Go for a suite overlooking the valley if available.

I just returned from a six night stay at the Brufani Palace Hotel. Upon my arrival after a 7+hour flight, I was warmly welcomed by the day manager, Stefano. I was escorted to my room by the bellman and was pleasantly surprised to see that my standard room had been upgraded to a junior suite with beautiful views. The room, spacious and clean, was decorated in rich fabrics and nicely appointed furniture. I opted for two twin beds as my daughter was sharing the room with me. The beds were very comfortable and the linens were of superior quality. The bathroom had marble flooring and countertop and was exactly what you would expect from a hotel of this caliber. The housekeeping staff came by twice a day - once to clean the room and a second time for turn down service. The pool, jacuzzi and workout area were never crowded and were fine for our purpose. Breakfast was served in a large room with spectacular views. Breakfast consisted of a buffet with the option to order a la carte from the menu. Angelica made us feel right at home each morning with her bright smile and efficient service. She was assisted by Patrizio and Andreas who were equally enthusiastic and attentive. We ate dinner at Collins Restaurant one evening and Lucio was our primary waiter. He made sure that our food was perfectly prepared and provided us with exquisite service. Any time that we required additional assistance, i.e., with accessing the hotel wifi, obtaining bus schedules for day trips, etc., we were helped by the front desk staff: Eva, Hassan and Stefano, with courtesy and professionalism. I was impressed that most of the staff not only knew our names (there were four family members staying at the hotel), but they also knew our room numbers. Perugia is a beautiful city with many interesting sights and restaurants to visit. It is also a perfect base from which to make day trips to neighboring cities such as Rome, Florence, Cortona, Assisi, Siena, Deruta, etc. I can say without hesitation that I would love to return to Perugia and that if and when I do, I will be staying at the Brufani Palace Hotel. For old world charm coupled with a feeling that you are being welcomed by family, this is the place to stay.
