“Good location, beutiful view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2013

The hotel is located in a good location; not in the heart of historical places, to avoid accessing car; but near enough, to be in every interesting place on walk.
Breakfast is acceptable; pool is so-so; hotel is clean; but I do not know why they use as much as alcohol for cleaning. Actually you can smell alcohol every where, when you come back to hotel.
I had not seen hotel which prohibit ironing in the room before.

Good location for bus station and the escalator to city centre.

Room was clean with a balcony but no tea/coffee, the bathroom light didn't work, and my bath towel was stained.

The staff were friendly on check in offering a tourist map and some instructions to get around, but on requesting an iron we were told it wasn't possible to get one, instead we had to pay 6 euros to have laundry iron my shirt.

The breakfast was the worst I've had in Europe. The bread was several days old so had gone stale. The cold milk was warm. The tea urn's tea wasn't hot and tasted quite stale. The coffee was from a machine. The fruit was just the cheap tinned stuff. There was no hot meat and no toast. There were cooked eggs but they had run out.

To be recommended. Our room was reasonably sized, large comfortable bed, clean. Breakfast had an impressive array of cakes and tarts, even a sherry trifle! (Boring usual savoury fare was also available). The service here was no more than adequate. We weren't even acknowledged on the first two mornings then, after dinner in the restaurant the evening before, we received a smile and the offer of freshly made coffee. The helpfulness of the staff behind the Reception Desk was excellent. They went above and beyond, even printing off rail and bus timetables so we could put a complex tourist route plan into successful operation. The Fitness Suite was modern and I was the only one who I ever saw using it. A real plus, as was the swimming pool - although indoor. The only down side was the one evening meal we took. Whilst the food was fine, service was far too fast. We were the only ones eating (at 8.30pm, so illuminating in itself) and the next course arrived within a minute if the previous one being taken away. Hawaii-5-0 played out on the large screen TV (just to kill any ambience) and then there was the bread. Unasked for, it arrived with the first course. We ate two pieces. It was whisked away, returned (looking suspiciously like the first basket), we ate nothing from it second time around and then we were charged for two lots of bread. Too minor to make a fuss, especially when every other aspect of the hotel was so good; but it rankled.

Room Tip: Without a balcony, there is nowhere in the hotel where you can catch the rays after early afternoon.

We stayed here recently in July 2013. We found the staff very well mannered, helpful & friendly. Th breakfast was great & service excellent. The room was clean & comfortable. Generally I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in a central location in Perugia.

There are two elements of this hotel that I can't fault - the staff and the location. The staff are awesome - exceptionally helpful - and the location is superb. You have to be wary of where you are in Perugia, as much of the centre of it is on a fortress hill. This hotel is located within a couple of minutes' walk of the escalators that take you up to the historic centre.

A word of warning. To get to the entertainment area you may want to take the escalators, but you need to be aware that these shut down at 1.45 AM. After that point be prepared for a long walk down of around twelve or thirteen stories.

However I'm afraid this hotel probably needs to do some careful thinking about some of its amenities and costs. Although this isn't the most expensive hotel in town, it's not cheap. However the rooms are quite spartan, of medium size and have very relatively few features for the price. Try to get one with a balcony. You won't regret it - but don't expect much from the rooms themselves.

One nice touch however is that unlike many Italian hotels there actually are quite a few power outlets. That's very helpful

However the inexcusable element of this hotel is the room service charge. Considering there are no coffee making facilities in the room the cost of having some brought up will blow your mind - nine euros. That's just the delivery charge. It's simply exploitative and disrespectful.

The consequence of such pricing is that any sane customer would become paranoid about requesting any service from this hotel. Do I have to pay nine Euros if I request an iron?

Thankfully the mini-bar prices are actually quite reasonable, which goes some way to balancing the situation.

A great pity about the room service charge though. This hotel has so much potential to be something better.

We started our Italian vacation with a three day stay in Perugia and the Sangallo was the perfect choice! Vicinity to historic center was perfect. We enjoyed returning toour balcony each night that overlooked the church of San Domenico. The room and hotel was very clean. Our stay at the hotel and in Perugia was greatly enhanced by the level of service and personal touch offered by Umberto and Concietta at the San Gallo. They were very kind and offered great suggestions that made our stay a truly great experience! We fully recommend this hotel and the beautiful city of Perugia!

Room Tip: A room with a balcony facing the main churches is a must!

Huge room with separate little sitting room, excellent bathroom, spotless room with huge comfy bed. Lovely views over countryside. Good location for buses to Siena and to railway station. A short walk and a ride up through the escalator system takes you to the historical centre of Perugia. Decent breakfast, free wi fi and sky tv in room. Indoor pool which I didn't use but looked clean and inviting. If eating in the hotel restaurant I recommend the vegetable. Soup and the tagliatelle with duck ragout.
