“Comfortable stay, great location, friendly front desk”
Reviewed 30 November 2013

We arrived at the Sangallo Palace without reservations and were very happy that we found the place. It was fairly priced and the rooms were very comfortable and good sized. The front desk was very helpful and gave us good recommendations to city center restaurants. We ended up staying two nights rather than one since Perugia is so centrally located for visiting so many of the surrounding towns.

The hotel is situated between the central bus station and the escalators to the old city centre.
Rooms are ok, the breakfast buffet adequate and the hotel staff helpful (and to my surprise fluent in English). During the first night there, I was to tired to go to the city centre for dinner and stayed there. The food was very good and the restaurant was frequented by a lot of locals.

This hotel was the choice of our tour company for our one night in Perugia. It was a great location for reaching the old part of town and enjoying an afternoon stroll around the square. With the exception of the hard bed, the room exceeded expectations. It's BYOW (bring your own washcloth), but all other personal amenities were provided. We were provided with a nice breakfast buffet that may or may not be available to other travelers.

At first the hotel seemed a little dated and in need of refurbishment but it was all functional and clean. Rooms are nice but not huge. Bathroom OK. Breakfast buffet was very good, as was service there and at reception. Location is convenient being near the start of the escalators going up to the Centro, and across from the coach station. I would stay here again.

Used this venue for 5 nights as a base whilst touring Umbria. We did not have our own transport and relied upon public transport to tour the region. We could not have picked a better venue. The Hotel is situated right across the road from the main Bus Depot that services not only the local district but also the region. The hotel lift drops you right opposite the Bus Depot. Access to the city is gained by using the escalators that are located approx 300 meters from the Hotel's front Door. Hotel rooms were quite a good size and contained all items that were required. Room was clean and all accessories were in good working order. Bathroom was also adequate. Hotel staff were found to be very helpful and offered great suggestions as to what to see and how to get there. Would have no hesitation in using the venue in the future for a similar purpose. Only downside experienced was the attitude of the Restaurant Manager to non Italian speaking guests (May have been a bad night) but we do not generally use Hotel Restaurant facilities when travelling anyway so it was not considered a major drawback.

As previous reviewers have mentioned, Sangallo Palace is perfectly located right beside the bus terminal and a walk away from the old city. For Eurochocolate, it was ideal as we were far enough from the crowds to relax but near enough Piazza Italia to feel comfortable shopping there.

Good points:
1. Our room was fully furnished, with a double bed, desk and two chairs, bar fridge, television (with five English-language channels), free fast WiFi, and a closet.
2. Our bathroom had a shower, hair drier, and amenities, and a whole package of 'sanitary napkin disposal' bags. This was amazing even though I didn't need them at the time! Most hotels only provide one, and what woman on her period only uses one napkin a day? Sangallo understands womens' needs, and that's a huge plus for me.
3. The front desk staff spoke perfect English, and were extremely helpful before and during our stay! I have zero complaints.

Bad points:
1. The breakfast buffet is seriously lacking. The only hot dish are the eggs, but on our first day they were overcooked and grey in color, and on the second day they were gone so fast that we didn't get to try any. An American lady kept on asking the servers for the eggs, but they kept responding that they were being prepared. Well, we never got to see those eggs.
2. Tables were left uncleaned, with dishes piled up. We resorted to just shoving the dishes aside and ate our breakfasts on a little corner of the table. I must admit it was unappetizing to stare at half-eaten salami and cheese, but what can you do.
3. We were never offered or served coffee! I could see waiters walking around asking tables whether they wanted coffee, and then bringing coffee, but we were never asked! I felt quite discriminated by this. Whether racist or simply incompetent, this was not a good start to breakfast.
4. The noise. We had a first floor room facing the roundabout and the traffic was deafening at all hours! VROOOOOM became my daily wake up call, when particularly loud motorists rev up their engines near our window.

Overall though, a good place to stay. Breakfast definitely needs improvement. I was made aware that the restaurant is not owned by the hotel, so perhaps hotel management can put some pressure on them to get it together.

Room Tip: We had a first floor room facing traffic. Do not get!

I stayed here in 2000, so this was an easy choice this time in Perugia and Andrea was immensely helpful with arranging our accommodations for 3 couples. And, upon arrival he spent an hour trying to help us make specific plans for getting to Deruta and back. Our room was excellent -- we didn't have a balcony, but the view made up for it. The hotel location just at the bottom of the escalators to the Old Town was perfect. Many thanks to Andrea, Andrea 2, and Umberto. They each went above and beyond to make our stay in Perugia perfect.
