This is perfect for a short break or a weekend in lovely Perugia. Located strategically near the escalator, the Iris hotel has good-size rooms, great showers, the staff are really nice and helpful. Check out is at 11 and reception is closed between midnight and 8 am, but apart from that the rest is absolutely good. A bus takes you there from the train station, and the Sulga bus station is just round the corner.

Hotel is housed in a beautiful old mansion. Location is just outside the old city , at the bottom of the escalators, near the bus station. The building is nice but rooms need to be refurbished, so does the lobby and hallway. Receptionist is helpful with advice on daytrips and transport. Also with restaurant recommendation and bookings. bedsheets are nice and clean, but the floor of the rooms need to be mopped a bit more, it felt sticky and dusty. There is no air-conditioning but it is not required as the rooms have thick walls and high ceilings and the electric fan that was provided does the job. It is situated next to a main road so one has to keep the windows shut at night to keep the noise out. Breakfast is simple. Overall a good two star hotel.

Absolutely great location: a minute's walk from the bus station, and less than a minute's walk from the underground escalator that takes you to the town center.
The old stone building keeps you relatively cool even in the hottest of summer days, even without the air conditioner.
Safety is not an issue, as even on the ground floor, we slept with the windows open and had no problems.

A fantastic building but in need of some TLC. Friendly and helpful staff. It is 2 star so don't expect the world. Escalators close by to get you up the hill into the city but you still need to be mobile. I preferred it to a bland travel inn type room. Breakfast is a bit simple and dull. Very clean.

pros
*the off season price *the architecture & decor *the rennovations *friendly, helpful staff *close to piazza partigiani (bus stazione) *the view from the hotel and my room *the lovely garden in the back, the lovely terrance in the front *quiet (from outside) no street noise in the back rooms *the iris restaurant (no relation) was very very good italian food for decent prices *the best napoliean pizza i've eaten at pizzeria mediterraneo a few steps away

cons
*internet a little slow--to be expected i think *room was not ready at check in (which i got there at 21-22:00). offered to send me to sister property, i refused *the sound that comes through--very noisy neighbors but that's not the hotel's fault as people are inconsiderate at night time *the 10 eu increase in room price for extended stay given they had given me a double when i booked a single (i thought that was silly but didn't want to quibble about 10 eu--i figured if it would help pay to restore the building then it was worth it)

Room Tip: just be ready to try to tune out your neighbors, if you can't be ready to not be able to move ro...

It's a bit of a hike to the main town, but the route takes you through the city's underground tunnels, which is a fun way to start and end each day.
The hotel itself is beautiful and historic. Much of Italy is beautiful and historic, but Hotel Iris really makes you feel as though your on the set of a dreamy tuscan movie: dark green gardens, distressed exterior, and rooms with a traditional decor. The off-shoot of this is the lack of mod-cons: there is no air-con, or a bar fridge (useful in summer), or a lift.
Also, unlike the hotel, the service lacks a bit of charm. Some of the desk staff seemed totally unwilling to help. But this is Italy eh.
Nonetheless, the rooms are large and well equipped, with particularly stunning bathrooms.

- Stunning building with bveautiful terrace for drinks in summer months (not April!)
- big spacious rooms. ours had a private bathroom which was a bit small but just for us which was nice.
- friendly english speaking staff
- great location in town. GPS for those with Sat Nav's (as lots of poeple struggle to find it) is N43.10703 and E12.38856.
- parking available (although limited) at 8 euro's a day.
Pretty basic but friendly enough and quaint.
-good value for money.
