“great base for a business trip or vacation to Basel”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Location is excellent, walking distance to the main train station and trams. When you check in there is a "mobility pass" as part of your welcome package in your name that gives you free travel on all trams, buses and other forms of public transport around the area, including to Basel airport. All hotels in Basel offer the same. Rooms are spacious and clean. It's also in a quiet, residential, area which is good for light sleepers. There is a kettle, Nespresso machine, fridge and TV in the rooms and a big win for me - a washing room beneath the hotel for washing clothes and ironing. For groceries, there's a large co-op and migros (supermarket chain) 3 minutes walk from the hotel and there's a larger co-op right beside the main train station, which is very close too.

Considering the high cost of living in Basel, this hotel was what my budget could afford and I made a good choice. The room was clean, "spacious" and modern. There is a kettle, Nespresso machine, fridge and TV available. The hotel is about 2 kms away from the Basel SBB main station and this station is also a great gem for food in the vicinity. There is also the Coop shops/supermarkets Guterstrasse and the trams and stops are close and easily accessible from the hotel. I stayed on the 6th floor and had an awesome view of the surrounding town.
The people at reception are available during the day and make sure you follow instructions for after hours. The room had no aircon, which was a drawback for me. The TV also had not a single English channel to watch.

Room Tip: Stay on the 6th floor for an awesome view.

I stayed in this hotel for few nights on a business trip. I had a single room and it was very spacious, clean and nice. The bed was small but comfortable. The bathroom was also quite big and clean. I had a fridge in the room and also water heater and some tea bags. The location is very good, near to the train station and it has also the tram station few mins away. There is a supermarket and a bakery few minutes away also. The reception only works certain hours, so you need a code for the door. Anyway people of the reception were nice. The only thing I would say is that 100 euro per night for me is not a budget hotel. I usually pay that much and stay in a much better hotel. But then again, its Switzerland, so also budget has a completely different meaning there.

Radiator piping hot with no control to turn it down. A messy entrance due to lack of staffing. I agree that this is not really what constitutes a hotel, more just a block of apartments. The room itself is immaculate and simple but I'm glad it is for only one night. Too warm in here.

This is a basic no frills hotel. Receptionist was helpful and friendly. The accommodation was very clean and acceptable. Easy to use local metro system with which you receive a free pass on arrival. I would use again but for no more than 2 nights. Wifi perfect.

I have stayed several times when working in Basel (booked by my company) and I can't say more than it is 'OK'. It certainly doesn't have the hotel feel about it, especially if you arrive out of hours. The rooms are clean and a decent size, but they are very basic - I am never in a rush to get back there! If you are looking for a basic place to stay for a resonable, (compared to other Swiss prices!), cost then Apaliving could suit you. Just don't expect a restaurant, bar, daily cleaning or anything else you might associate with a regular hotel stay.

Room Tip: The double rooms do not feel quite as basic as the singles

The "Apalivin" word conveys an image of "apart-hotel", but I was not convinced. It is more "budget" hotel. The 2 receptionists were not welcoming and seemed annoyed at being disturbed when I approached the front desk. They never greeted me first or made me feel at home. They queen bed is a double bed, there was no microwave to heat a meal, they provided a morning coffee capsule, but no milk. I do not plan to return there and would not recommend this place for the money!!!!!!

Room Tip: Dont go there. There are other deals to be had in Basel
