we had one of the small rooms, which was absolutely enough for a weekend. The bathroom is really nice and quite spacious. Very clean. The bed comfortable.

What I didnt like is that the Sauna was only open until 21h, which has not been indicated in the reservation, but was one of the reasons to choose that hotel. As we arrived shortly before 21h we could not use it. What I also would no recommend is the breakfast. That was quite disappointing, the offer was not of a high quality and for the price I'd rather have breakfast in some of the restaurants or cafes around the corner.

Dear Guest,

We would like to thank you very much for your comment on Tripadvisor, regarding your stay at the Hotel D in Basel.

We are very happy to read that you enjoyed our establishment, its design, its cleanliness and its rooms.

Concerning, what you “didn’t like” the sauna and the gym area close at 9pm. But for sure if you ask at the front desk we can turn it on for you also later than 9pm. We apologize for the misunderstanding.

Little Tip for your next stay: On our official website http://www.hoteld.ch or directly with the reservation team you can book your room with breakfast included at a lower price.

Your comment is very important to us and we will make sure to share it with our team.

We hope to have the pleasure of seeing you again soon.

Kindest regards,

Julien Baly

In general, this is a nice hotel. Good location close to the Three Kings hotel, stylish and spacious rooms, decent price for Swiss standards, and decent breakfast. The bathroom has a clear window into the room, so if you are with someone else, there is no privacy. Most people at the front desk are nice and helpful.

However, I had a bad and strange experience during my first hours there. I arrived late in the evening, checked in and stepped out to eat something. On my way back I passed by the gym to see what it looked like. A couple of minutes after I was there, the night receptionist (a man in his 50s) stormed into the gym and demanded I leave. He didn't speak much English and he came across unacceptably rude and aggressive. So this encounter tainted my experience there. It's possible the receptionist was having a bad day, but then he shouldn't be in the hotel business.

Dear guest,

First of all, we would like to thank you for taking the time to leave a comment on Tripadvisor and for sharing your nice experience in our hotel.

We are glad to read that you have appreciated the location of the Hotel, our design, and our service.

About the window between the bathroom and the bedroom, not all our rooms have the same design and the same arrangement, we try to give those rooms to person alone or in couple, for example, we won’t give this kind of rooms to two business partners.

Regarding, your “bad first impression” on the behalf of the whole team we truly apologize if you felt any kind of aggressiveness directed against you.

Thank you for staying with us and we hope to welcome you again for your next stay in Basel.

Best regards,

My husband and I stayed three nights in this small but very professional hotel, the service from the staff was always helpful an friendly while the room was of a good size, well appointed with quality fixtures and a very comfortable bed; also, great shower with plenty of hot water. Good location, 5 min tram ride to central or an easy 15 min walk, plus with the free tram and bus tickets, couldn't be easier. Only thing missing was the coffe and tea making facilities in the room, apart from that it is an excellent hotel. Great wifi.

Room Tip: Top floor at the rear.

We stayed here two nights after flying into Basel airport on the way to Lucerne. It has a great central location where you can get anywhere on the suburb tram and bus network. It's about one minute walk from the banks of the Rhine. The rooms are a euro minimal style, no fuss, clean and smart. We didn't bother with breakfast in the hotel because within a couple of minutes there is a good handful of cafés.

Tip: It's easy to get here from the airport by bus - bus travel from the airport is included as part of the 'mobility card' that hotel guests get, you get the card from the hotel that gives you free travel around Basel, on the way from the airport just have a printout of your hotel reservation to cover you until you pick your card up.

This hotel is very conveniently located for sightseeing, shopping, restaurants, the river, and transport. It has (virtually) all the bases covered. The staff were delightful and very helpful. Breakfast was more than adequate. Only one thing 'missing', the lack of coffee and tea making facilities in the room. I don't always want, or have time for, breakfast and I just prefer to start my day with a coffee while I am getting ready. This is a hotel that wont let you down.
