The surprising thing about this zoo is that it seems small in that you move between enclosures quickly, but the depth of the enclosures allow the animals to have good space to move in, and to seek privacy away from people if they choose to. In several locations, such as the rhino house and lion enclosure, there are both outdoor and indoor viewing areas to get pretty close to the animals.
Other useful aspects include the tram stopping very near the entrance and having the direct line 10 to the train station. The cafes are well spaced around the zoo and the entry fee, with Basel Card and two of our children being young adults was very inexpensive.
