Although not as amazing as the Clock Tower in Prague, the Clock Tower in Bern is remarkable - especially when you consider when it was constructed. You should arrive about 5 minutes before the hour in order to take full advantage of the show the clock gives to spectators at the top of each hour.

The massive clock, Zyttglocke, in the center of Bern is worth visiting while in Bern. Like any similar clock throughout Europe, the Zyttglocke has moving pieces that go through a small routine every hour. Father time flips the hour glass, the carpenter strikes the hammer on the bell, and several other small animations make their hourly dance; however, this dance does not start at the top of the hour! In order to see the animations, make sure you arrive at least five minutes before the hour as the dance starts four minutes prior and a crowd will gather.

Keep in mind that mass transit (buses and street cars) do not stop during this animation. The gathering crowd will be large enough to stretch into the street creating a dangerous environment of pedestrians versus public transportation. The Zyttglocke is certainly worth visiting while in Bern, just beware of traffic at this intersection.

This is one of those great city clocks, even has sort of a warning bell, in a tiny animated clock a minute before the main clock chimes, as the man brings back his sledgehammer and strikes the bell. Always a lot of waiting cameras

Bern is famous for this Clock Tower. Totally amazing and words can not do it justice. Must see it in person. Nothing was disliked in Switzerland!

Nice little moving music on one side of tower- reminiscent but not as nice as the ones in Germany and the astronomical clock a poor cousin to the one in Prague. If you've never seen the others, you'll probably enjoy these
