“Absolutely perfect”

Everything here was perfect. The locations, the reception staff, the room, the breakfast and breakfast staff - everything. Extremely well located next to the Federal Palace with a beautiful view over the river and Bern. Walking distance from the train station and several tram stops within 50 metres or so.

Maybe it is my imagination, maybe I am partial and wearing pink glasses but... despite the hotel being fully booked and us having booked a standard room, the room we are alloted at Bellevue keeps getting better and better with years.
If we got an upgrade, the staff did not make any mention of it. Well... thank you anyway.

Huge room with magnificent views over the Aar. Once again, we were impressed with discreet yet perfect details. My partner is an addict of those Kambly cookies given to guests.

Breakfast is excellent (wonderful scrambled eggs) and given in a superbly lit room.
We always stay there in mid winter and I must say, at that time of the year, I find the neutral color scheme in the bedrooms a little depressing. So, if you have the courage, you might try and get breakfast downstairs.

For the second year now, they have increased security within the hotel by limiting the use of elevators to the room cards... as a result, if you forget the card, you’ll either have to ask some staff or will have to use the staircases.
I am not sure I am crazy about that. After all, Bern is one of the most secure towns in the world, or so I read somewhere.

Excellent choice too, if travelling by car. No idea what they do with the car but not having to worry about it (in Bern ! in a driver’s hell !) is definitely an asset worth mentionning. You get it back in less than a minute.

I was here two nights on a business trip in December 2011. I can only say: my stay was excellent from the beginning till the end. The service was outstanding, thinking about everything before I could even think about it myself. It is worthwhile to have a long breakfast eating quietly and enjoy the environment. The Christmas decorations in the lounge were fantastic. I had a spectacular view from my room on the river, the mountains and the old city. The hotel even provided a binocular in the room to have a closer look.
Of course the hotel is very expensive, but that is always in Switzerland. I read the reviews below and to update the information there: there was a very large brand new flat screen in my room and internet access in the room was fast and free.

I have stayed here twice in the last four months for business. It is indeed quite expensive, but I find almost everything in Switzerland to be very costly compared to many other countries. Compared to the previous hotel I used in Bern six months ago, the room was huge, the desk space was adequate, internet connection was useful and the experience was lovely. The hotel staff are simply outstanding: at the front desk, in the restaurant and bars, and in housekeeping. This is a hotel for people who relish fine old hotels and exemplary service and are willing to pay for it. Unfortunately I have not yet found a good mid-price hotel in Bern that is adequate for the business traveler. $250 per night hotel rooms with bathrooms so small you can't turn around, tiny beds as hard as a rock, $35 per day internet charges and cigarette smoke pouring into the room are unfortunately the norm. The Hotel Bellevue Palace is an antidote for such dreary alternatives.

We had booked another hotel online. When we got there, the lobby was uninviting, the room miniscule. We were able to cancel and started scrounging for a new hotel. We went to a second one, equally bad. Finally we decided to spend the money and stay at the Bellevue. What a wonderful decision! The room was large and very comfortable. We were so tired when we finally got into our room that we had dinner in their bar, which is a delightful room (and the dinner was delicious). Best of all was the concierge and front desk staff. They couldn't have been nicer, gave us tips and reserved dinner. Bern ended up being a very nice two days instead of the disaster that began our stay.

The best hotel we have encountered during our driving trip around Switzerland. The truly 5-star service started right from the valet-parking upon our arrival. The room was spacious and fully equiped, although some personal, more intimate touch could have been applied to the decor. As it was the modern atmosphere of the room was in some dissonance with the elegant and belle epoque style of the common areas. The breakfast room was charming and the breakfast itself was quite satisfactory.

Room Tip: The best rooms are on the high floors overlooking the river
