The breakfast buffet is delicious and generous. The location on the Rathausgasse is ideal - near several historic sites, restaurants and shopping areas. Herr Troxler and his staff are very gracious, and more than willing to answer questions and provide directions/suggestions about sight-seeing in Bern and other nearby towns. Bathrooms are small and modular, as has been noted in other reviews; however, small bathrooms are typical in many Swiss hotels. The combo body wash/shampoo provided was not a good product; we used our own instead. Overall, however, I'd recommend this hotel. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, and would return if we got the chance to visit Bern again.

Situated in a quiet alley in the city area, no far from shopping. Rooms are very clean and the modular bathroom concept within the room is an interesting concept for use of the limited space. The walls between rooms are however not very well sound-proofed which means one can hear neighbors talking or TV sets on. No jugs for boiling water are provided. Breakfast spread is only average but the tea selections is excellent for tea-lovers.

We had difficulty in finding hotel from Bern railway station. The bathroom was the size that you find in cruise ship-small & tight spaces. No central heating during our 2 night stay in April (outside temperature 4 degree C( was told by receptionist central heating only turn on when outside temperature is 0 degree C).Not worth the price we paid.

Walking from the train station to this hotel is a very pleasant stroll in the old city of Bern. The facade of the hotel is historical. But, what a disappointment, inside is a standard airport / suburbean hotel, cheaply modern. Zero charm. And the restaurant, though reasonably good, is the same. So stay there, good and cheap, but spend all your time outside when awake !

The hotel is located 1,2km from the train station Bern. That's a 15 min walk or 20€ by Taxi.
As the hotel is down town, there a various restaurants for dinner.
The rooms are clean, WLAN is for free. Although the rooms are not luxuriously equipped, it was a nice stay to wait for the meeting next morning.

We visited Bern as a family with younger kids (5, 8, 15) and were pleasantly surprised by the Hotel Goldener Schluessel. The staff were friendly, the rooms efficient, clean and very spacious. The bathroom pod in our room was a fun solution that offered the convenience of a small bathroom without any fuss. Bern is a great city to visit with kids - the kids enjoyed spotting the most details, and there's no shortage of spectacularly odd details on the beautiful old-city buildings. We treated ourselves to an elegant yet child-friendly fondue-dinner at the Ratskeller Restaurant. On a rainy afternoon I can recommend the kids' museum at the Paul Klee Museum, ideal for letting the kids while away an enjoyable afternoon in the small, thoughtfully arranged and very much creative-hands-on studio.

Room Tip: Bern has a lot going on in the evenings in this part of the old city. We didn't find the street...

We stayed here for three nights in late January 2014. The hotel reception staff at this hotel were very accommodating and eager to suggest local attractions and good restaurants. In fact, it happened to be my sister's birthday on the day we checked into this hotel, and the reception lady was kind enough to recommend a restaurant up the road. She offered to reserve a table for us, and told the staff of my sister's birthday. Upon arrival that evening at the restaurant, they gave us both a free glass of wine. Her suggestion was spot on also as the food was great!
In regards to the hotel room itself, it was quite a large room with twin beds. The bed was great and the bathroom was very roomy and clean. Wi-fi was perfect also.
My only complaint was the pillow. It was quite large, but very flat, making it difficult to put it into a good position under your neck. However, it was made of down feather--down feather pillows are not my favourite. Though I know many people who do like them so I suppose it is just a matter of taste.
The pillow did not hinder our sleeping or overall stay at the hotel at all, and everything else was perfect. Really good value and awesome location.
