“A real value solution in expensive Bern”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2013

We stayed 2 nights in this Hotel and we enjoyed the cleanliness, the location near the Railway station and in the center of Bern. Moreover I booked the room 3 months ago and I find it a real value a 90 euros per night. The receptionists were very polite and when I asked for an earlier check-in because of my morning arrive, they offered it to me 3,5 hours earlier!! Also there is a free coffee, tea or milk and you can buy your sandwich from the near supermarket!! So far so good, because I have to underline the noise from the street and the absence of soundproofing...I listened the couple in the other room, discussing until 4.00 in the morning!! Although, we enjoyed our stay there!

Room Tip: A very cheap solution in Bern!

We stayed at this 2 star hotel for 10 nights in July 2013 for 2 reasons:
1. it was located conveniently close to the train station;
2. at 120 euros per night it was cheap by Swiss standards.

Otherwise we doubt whether it had any other redeeming features.
Our room faced the inner courtyard, so it was quiet but we could hardly open the window because that of the corner room next door, at 90 degrees to ours, was so close, just 2 feet away.
The hotel had no air-conditioning and no fans were provided.
At night there was no receptionist. The receptionist is present only from 7.00 to 22.00.
We felt there was a lack of security. Reception couldn't keep an eye on who was coming or going because it was located in a side room on the 2nd floor.
The furniture was run down. The hotel could do with a major refurbishment.
Breakfast was poor - only coffee was provided. We used to have breakfast at the train station which like all Swiss stations was endowed with a huge variety of eateries and restaurants.
We survived because we used to get out early and return late. Bern can easily be seen and appreciated in a day so we travelled a lot using trains. The Swiss travel pass came in extremely handy.
Still, the receptionists were friendly.

We stayed here because it was one of the few places with vacancies when we arrived in Bern. We had an early train the next morning, so all we needed was a place to sleep for one night.

The reception worker was OK, and helped us arrange a way to check out in the morning before reception opened. The room cost around 110 francs. For about two-thirds of this price, we got a room in Italy that had a full kitchen and balcony. I guess that's Switzerland for you. They don't make a lot of effort to be friendly to tourists' budgets.

The room was actually decent-sized, but dirty. You could see the dirt especially where the floorboards met the walls. The bathroom was right by the door to the room, so the doors kind of banged against each other. The room had an OK television - it was at least flat panel.

If they could clean up the room a bit, it wouldn't be so bad. But Internet wasn't included, nor were other common amenities like refrigerator or A/C. We were also disappointed with the price. We were glad to only stay one night and get out of Switzerland.

I chose this hotel because it is the one near the train station but almost the cheapest (CHF140). Most of the hotels in Bern city are expensive than other cities in Swiss. I wonder if it is because Bern is the capital?!

There is no air-con, no fan, no fridge, no breakfast, no free wifi (need to pay). We open the windows but there is VERY loud street noise (U can hear every word clearly!). Perhaps our room was on the main road. The room size is okay and clean but the TV is pretty old. We couldn't find spare plugs available inside the room, so we need to plug out the room lamp to charge our phone and camera.

Beware that there is no staff after 10pm. If you will check in late, they will leave everything you need in the reception. Besides, remember to bring with the password (hotel will provide) if you will back to the hotel late. Otherwise, you need to wait until someone opens the door for you.

The hotel location is convenient, a Coop is just next to the hotel, 3-5mins to the famous clock tower and other attractions. The staffs are friendly.

Room Tip: You could choose this hotel if you have limited budget. But if you are able to pay more, choose anot...

Located in the heart of Old Town Bern, great spot as close to everything. Large room & bathroom. Bathroom spacious and clean. No free wifi, but you can pay if you wish. Enjoyed our stay here would definitely go back. Has all the basics.

The room is clean but rather stuffy during summer. There is no A/C and fan in the room. Tried to open the window for ventilation but it's too noisy outside. The pillow is too soft for my comfort. Note that there is no coffee/tea making facilities in the room, meaning that you can't boil water as well. The room has a "hospital" smell that I dislike whenever I walked in the room. I will not stay here again on my next trip. Nevertheless, I must give credits to the staff as they are friendly, honest and helpful.
