Rama Thai was perfect for us. We loved the Swiss food, but were ready for something light and spicy. Rama Thai was just what we were looking for. We passed on the lunch specials and ordered dishes from the regular menu. Each dish was beautifully presented, tasty and spiced the way we requested. Our server was cute and very friendly. She made sure we were pleased with everything. This was one of our memorable meals in Switzerland.

Visited Rama Thai last Sunday, after deliberating about which of 3 Thai restaurants in Thun city (Yes 3 in Thun) to try - We made the perfect choice.

We made sure that they had Papaya salad on the menu as that was the main reason for going out for Thai - my patrtner and I love Thai food, spicy food and so a real Papaya salad ticks all of the boxes!

Friendly middle aged Swiss gentleman served us (we assume he is the owner/partner) and was very polite and patient while we searched the menu for our main courses.

We ordered a Papaya salad (16chf) to share as a starter, and I chose one of the dishes on the last page titled "auf deinen eigene gefahr" or "at your own risk" These dishes are exclusively Thai, and are either very hot, or host a large range of herbs and spices that could be too much for the average Swiss pallet. I chose the spicy Shrimp curry, with chilli and thai vegetables. My partner chose the "Larb Ghai" and a side of rice, which is a salad of minced chicken, mixed with chopped spring and red onion, peppermint and basil leaves and, chillies, fish sauce and lime juice.

The Papaya salad was very big, good enough for a main course with a side of rice, or perfect for a starter for two. We were asked if we wanted it spicy, or Thai spicy and answered Thai spicy. The man raised his eyebrows and asked if we were sure and knew it would be rpepared with and contain 7 sliced thai chillies and we answered that in Thailand they always told us 12 ;-) He laughed and ordered away. It was EXCELLENT, as good as i've ever tried and it was hot. Right on the perfect very hot/still tasty limit, and I have a very high spice tolerance. there was loads of juice in it, and it was not padded out with iceberg lettuce which happens often in Switzerland as Papaya is expensive. Loads of papaya, loads of tasty juice (needs rice to soak it up it was so much) slithers of carrot and plenty of red chillies. 10/10, really!

The larb ghai was also excellent, but after the hot papaya salad, was maybe not the prefect choice as it is essentally the same style of hot chilli laced salad - the rice was a welcome partner! It was however as tasty a Larb Ghai as we have ever had in or outside of Thailand.

My spicy Shrimp was served in a lovely terracota style pot, and was HUGE - came with rice nand I was told i could simply ask for another portion when ready. Taste was very nice, a tiny bit salty for such a big portion for ME personally - I don't ever add salt to my meals so am in the minority there.

We both took a couple of Singha beers to help us along, and a diet coke.

Bill came to 82 francs which for such a large excellent Thai meal in Switzeland, we found to be a good price.

Overall 9.75/10 i will only ever give a 10/10 if the meal was for free haha!!
