I stayed at the D'angleterre for 4 nights in a deluxe room with lake view. The room was beautifully & comfortably furnished & the view was wonderful. However, the hotel is a bit of a walk (some up hill) to the old town where all the sights are.

Housekeeping was excellent. The products in the bathroom are very nice.

All the staff are were charming.

The food in the restaurant was good - if a bit elaborate.

Be warned though the whole experience is terribly expensive. A 2 course meal with a glass of champagne & a glass of wine was £100 for one person ! Continental breakfast in the room for 1 about £20.

There is a bar in the basement which is open till 2am with live music. As the night wears on the smell of cigarette & cigar smoke drifted up the stair well & is evident in the air conditioning. I was on the first floor & had to turn the heating off & open my windows to get fresh air.

Also I was conscious of the thump of the bass from the live band until 1.30am - so ask for a room high up.

It is however a charming hotel with staff who can't do enough for you.

Hotel has a very good location. A must is to have a breakfast (free R de Ruinart included) at the Windows restaurant - great views over the lake Geneva and the mountains. What sets the hotel apart is the service - it's very personal and intimate. However, if you are looking for a 'grand experience' you should go to the FS des Bergues. Hotel has a poor gym but you can always go and run by the beautiful lake front.

I stayed for 4 nights while attending a conference at the main convention centre near the airport. The expense of the hotel and the commute to the conference were well compensated by the outstanding quality of the hotel and its perfect downtown location. Service was excellent from check in to check out. The hotel staff didn't know every restaurant in the city, but those they recommended were quite good. The best was Windows, the French restaurant at the hotel (it merits a separate review, but in brief outstanding classic French food, wine and service). Although I did not have a view of the water (I had not much view at all), the room and bathroom were beautifully furnished and reasonably spacious (the bathroom especially), and everything worked well (even the WiFi internet, which was free!). The price (after negotiation for the conference rate a bit over $500/night, even with the recent appreciation of the USD) was probably the most I have spent for a hotel, but friends paid $400/night for MUCH lower quality, so it was sort of a bargain. I would definitely stay again (especially if someone else pays).

This is a lovely smaller hotel in a wonderful location. Our fifth floor room had a small window, but it looked directly onto the Jet d'Eau, perhaps THE iconic image of Geneva. Service was efficient and friendly. We didn't get the chance to eat at the restaurant, Windows, but it's apparently one of the city's best. Breakfast wasn't included in the (high) room rate, so we just went down the street to the Starbuck's -- one of the few places open early on Sunday and very popular with the locals.

Unfortunately (and this was not the hotel's fault), we happened to stay on the day of the triathlon. Very early on a Sunday morning we were awakened by a guy on a loudspeaker right outside the hotel who didn't stop broadcasting all morning. So much for sleeping in!

I liked this hotel, but I thought our room was too stuffed with furniture that was too big for the scale of the room. I couldn't move without bumping into the bed, or a chair or table. It wasn't a large room to begin with, and all that furniture just made it feel smaller. It got claustrophobic after a while.

Expensive, but the location is good. Ask for a room with a lake view - you can catch a boat over to the main part of town from just outside, and it's free with the transport card that the hotel gives you. It was too hot to walk to the station, but that is only about 7 minutes' walk away. Service was slightly awry at breakfast (an order got forgotten and plates weren't cleared away) but the bedroom was very comfortable.

Simply world class. We cheekily booked a cheap flight and chose a world class hotel. This place is simply the creme de la creme. Geneva itself, however, is a wee bit boring and the jet d'eau is disappointing. Nevertheless, the hotel is fantastic for a romantic weekend break.

My wife and I had the pleasure of celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary last week at Hotel d'Angleterre. In all those years , this is without doubt the best hotel we have ever stayed in. We have never been in a five star hotel that comes anywhere near to providing the discreet friendly service and quality of surroundings provided by Hotel d'Angleterre. In addition it is located in the best, and we would say the most beautiful position in Geneva. To top this, the hotel's exquisite Windows restaurant, facing Lake Geneva and the famous Jet d'eau provides cuisine which is gastronimic perfection and an artistic masterpiece of presentation. If you want to indulge in probably one of europe's finest hotel experiences, book Hotel d'Angleterre now! We are going back.
