“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 29 March 2011

This was our second visit to this hotel and our 3RD time using the Manotel group in Geneva. The first time we stayed here was actually because the Auteuil (which we used on a previous visit) was fully booked.
Our first visit at the Royal was just overnight, we arrived in the evening and there had been a slight mix up with our booking so we thought we may be moved to another of their hotels but instead we were upgraded to one of their suites (with on suite jacuzzi) which was great. We also did something we never normally do which was eat dinner at the hotel restaurant downstairs as we were too tired to venture out but found that good as well.
The second time we stayed we booked an executive room for 2 nights which alas didn't have a jacuzzi but the room was just as nice and actually seemed slightly bigger than the suite. Breakfast here is optional and they offer quite a variety of different things but if you decide not to go be sure to check your bill as it was added to ours by mistake although quickly rectified by an apologetic manager.
Both times we found the rooms pristine, the service great and the staff accommodating. Even if you are looking for something central don't be put off by the fact that it's not over the river as Geneva is pretty small so things are very walkable and safe (it's literally a 15 minute walk from the hotel to the other side of town where all the banks, shops are) and if you don't feel like going that far there are some really nice places to dine just behind the station, which is only a few minutes away.

I had to pay over 700 CHF for two nights at this four star hotel, the real rating is much closer to three. Room was spacious but was too warm (in March!), no airco. Also service at the restaurant was appallingly slow although our group were the only diners. Neighbourhood is a bit dodgy - but close to the central railway station.

This elegant and friendly hotel is perfectly located. Great breakfast buffet and amazing restaurant. Staff is welcoming and super nice. I highly recommend it for both business and leisure.

Looks are deceiving. If there is only a slight mix up in your booking, the Swiss show their standards: poor service and totally inflexible behavior. Hardly ever did I experience robot-like and unforgiving incompetent staff like this. Really terrible. The room turned out to be well below average and breakfast was also a disappointment.

The junior suites are a scam - they are ordinary rooms which have been divided by a lining wall. Tiny bathroom. Everything is old in the room. Minibar didn't work, and toilet didn't flush. Really poor breakfast which they charge an horrendous amount of money for - dried up eggs, and an eastern european feel to the breakfast room.

I travel a lot and I am usually satisfied with my room - here I felt cheated! Have never written a recommendation on tirpadvisor before, but I felt I needed to warn everyone - don't go here - overprized and really poor quality!!

As other reviewers have remarked, the hotel is in an excellent location to the main train/bus station. It is not far at all from the lake, very easy walking distance. Also, if you know where you are going, there are many good restaurants in the area as well as grocery stores. We had a junior suite, which consisted of two rooms - one with couch and desk, another with bed and TV along with small table and chairs. This room was in the back of the hotel and it was noiser than the room we had in the front of the hotel last year. I don't know if it was trains or elevators or both, but there definitely was a lot of rumbling during the night. The bathroom set-up was a bit odd, but then it is difficult to remodel these older buildings. I think they took two rooms and turned them into one larger room. Bed was comfortable, good water pressure, a Nespresso machine in the room, bathrobes and slippers, and three closets. Overall, we liked the standard room we had last year more than this one. For the money, I would try something else.

I stayed here for 4 days last week and the hotel was pretty standard; clean, nice decorations in the rooms although they are really tight.

The breakfast was horrible and the location has a few good restaurants around it but is not by the lake.
