“Cozy chalet-like hotel”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

The hotel is family-friendly, very cozy, a short walk away from the lake. Rooms are quite and comfortable, buffet breakfast is generous. The hotel restaurant is all authentic Swiss, worth checking out. Considering that everything in Geneva is expensive, the price is fairly average. On the downside though, the elevator is tiny!! Do not book a room on higher floors.

We stayed at Hotel Edelweiss which was a beautiful cheese smelling hotel near the Lake. The whole hotel was smelling like cheese because it has this amazing traditional restaurant which is very popular with the locals. We were so lucky to get a spot. A traditional jodel band was playing and customers could even try playing the Alphorn (I had a go and I wasn't very good at it). Some people may find this place a bit tacky but I absolutely loved it! The rooms were decorated traditionally and the location was great.

Thank you for your wonderful description of our hotel Edelweiss!
I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and were able to try our traditional restaurant with the cheese smell, Yodle and the Alphorn! I am sure that you noticed that playing the Alphorn is not an easy thing but it is fun moment during dinner.
I and my team look forward to have the opportunity to welcoming you back again!
Best regards

The interior is designed to look like a wooden hut. Bathrooms are modern, and the size of the rooms is fine for a city hotel. Due to the fondue restaurant everything reeks of melted cheese from 5 pm - at least in our room on 3rd floor. For 1-2 nights the hotel will do fine!

Full breakfast is 18 CHF but just 30m from the entrance Migros combines capuccino and fresh croissants for around 4 CHF. Going to/from the station is just 2 stops by bus 1 or 25. Walking will take you straight through the red-light district. Plenty of restaurants and bars in the area - and just 2 short blocks to the lake.

Room Tip: We guess that rooms facing toward the square and away from the ventilation of the kitchen will have...

We booked one night here to recover from our jet lag at the start of our trip. Overall we were happy with our room. It was comfortable with a nice hot shower with decent water pressure. One thing that stood out was that the staff were always very friendly. As others have said, Geneva is an expensive city. Once we added parking and brakfast it made for an expensive one night stay. We would have given this hotsl 3.5* if we could.

We couldn't park our hire car here but for CHF37 could park at their sister hotel (Kipling). To start off with it was a nightmare trying to find Hotel Kipling! After driving around in circles we finally found Kipling and it was a short walk to Edelweiss. Apparently they normally send out directions but unfortunately we didn't receive any.

There was a small group of younger guys as we were walking to the hotel but they didn't bother us at all. We can't comment on the safety of the area at night as we stayed in and had room service - which was quick and delicious. The next morning we walked around the lake, which was conveniently only a few minutes away.

Breakfast was ok, not bad but nothing special either. It was served in a Swiss themed room which was a nice touch. I agree with other posters that it is disappointing to have to pay extra.

Edelweiss has got the rustic look down pat - we're not fans of the "look" as it felt a little old and dusty but it was the cheapest we could get* in a reasonable location. It is about a 8-10 min walk (or a 2-4 min bus ride) from the main Geneva train station, and once you arrive the hotel gives a free travel pass for public transport which you can use to help defray accommodation costs. This is also valid for the ferries on Lake Geneva, and you can catch these from the lake (5 min walk from the hotel) to get to the old quarter / shopping district / Geneva fountain which is a good alternative on a nice day.

So, reasonable location in the daytime, but at night we felt that the area lost a bit of its charm with locals loitering around street corners looking suspicious so we weren't as comfortable walking around... Could just be our imagination, but for the night we would probably recommend using the free travel pass and stick to the buses (there is a bus stop right outside the hotel).

There was an error in the receipts as we understood it to be when we checked in. The breakfast included is still charged separately which is in addition to the room rate. Not the way it was stated when we checked in. We ask is breakfast included the answer was YES. When we review our receipts that was not the case. There was a charge of 12 franks each day for breakfast. We went round and round finally the hotel admitted a mistake in there tally but our cards were still charged the full room rate and breakfast. In America when a hotel says breakfast included that means no addition charge. In Geneva that is not what it means even if you talked about it before you checked in. They just didn't get it at all. Sorry to say it ruin the trip and they were steed fast in there thinking of Breakfast included. Stay at a hotel that knows what it means they say "breakfast included". Bottom line it put us over out Per Diem rate for each day and the week.

Room Tip: The odd number rooms face the square. Our rooms were looking at the back of another ran down buildin...

This hotel is very nice looking, good service, etc, but BEWARE SCAM ALERT, they can't multiply, and have a very weird way to figure your bill. Myself and my traveling associate were charged over $120 too much, and even when shown the calculation error, the hotel refused to adjust the bill. The hotel site, and reservation states 'best internet rate, breakfast included'. The bill states breakfast included.

However, each day, I was charged 12 Swiss Francs additional, so whatever rate you get, be prepared to pay another fee. Also be sure to check the figures on your bill, as the staff transposes the numbers slightly, so you end up paying way too much. Not allot, but I guess if you skim a few hundred here and there, it eventually adds up.

Too bad, as this is a cute hotel, also restaurant menu is very small, but good food if you like fondue. Rooms are noisy also, can hear band all night long. Also, lots of hoers, drug pushers right outside hotel door, can/t go out after dark.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel, Crown Plaza near airport maybe.
