I enjoyed staying at Calvy.
In this expensive city it was nice to find this hotel well located, near to the Old City in the corner of a main street with tram, supermarket, stores
coffeeshops and restaurants.

The room had microwave oven and fridge, safebox, good bed.
Breakfast was continental plus juices, eggs and fruits, what is quite reasonable.
Nice staff,helpful.
I would return to this hotel

Room Tip: Better ask room in the back side

Calvy is an older hotel. Near to the 2 main shopping streets in Geneva and the public transport. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean and tidy but dated. Breakfast was a good continental and included in the overall price. Would stay here again.

Stayed for one night as part of a business trip. Hotel was fine just to sleep in but I'm glad I wasn't staying longer or paying for it myself! Facilities in room were very basic (old tv, weak shower, very thin sheets and thin walls so I could hear every time the person in the next room walked around, plugged in phone charger etc.) Breakfast selection was poor - coffee and cornflakes. Geneva is expensive but at over £110 a night I would still expect more than this.

We stayed overnight for one night. The hotel was quite a bit out from the centre of town and not that easy to find way back in. Found it very `muggy' overnight. Decor and facilities and breakfast all a bit basic, but perfectly OK for an overnight stay.....just wouldn't have wanted to be there for a holiday.

The hotel is reasonably priced, very close to the tram line and in a nice quiet location. The rooms are basic but well appointed. The breakfast was inclusive and plentiful. staff were friendly. I would stay again next time I am in Geneva.

Geneva doesn't "do" affordability, on the whole. But the Hotel Calvy does! The rooms are much better than average, but they are not luxurious (for that you pay an extra 600 Swiss Francs per night at other places). But the Calvy has comfortable rooms, neighbourhood charm, excellent public transport links, better than adequate food, and pleasant and helpful staff. Details follow:

Finding the Calvy:
The easiest is to get on a bus (Nº. 5) at the airport. Alight at Terrassiere (the busses and trams display monitors with the next couple of stops highlighted). Walk along Rue de la Terrassiere until you find the Ruelle du Midi on your right. You'll spot the hotel right away.
If you arrive at Gare Cornavin in Geneva (either from the airport or elsewhere), either use the Nº. 5 bus, or take the Nº. 16 tram and again alight at Terrassiere. As the tram runs along the street, the stop is almost next to the Ruelle.
If you take a taxi from Cornavin station, the fare is about 18 Swiss Francs (and the driver is likely to pocket the change from your 20 CHF note unless you insist he doesn't deserve a tip).
(UN people: the Nº. 5 bus takes you to and from the Palais des Nations, staff entrance: alight at "Nations").

Upon checking in, remember to ask for your FREE Geneva bus/tram pass. The hotel issues them on behalf of the city authorities and it is dated with your exact stay dates (maximum 15 days). The bus pass is a real bonus as the public transport system is efficient (as well as being easy on the pocket and easy to use as you do not have to find ticket machines).

The hotel itself:
Check-in at the hotel is straight forward and the staff are polite and helpful. There is a lift (elevator) to the rooms that is larger and more efficient than ones I have seen in Paris.

The rooms are also straight forward, with little in the way of frills. However, the room was clean, cared for, and comfortable. There is a '70s feel about the place: the furniture was designed to be sturdy and functional. I had a twin to myself and it had desk space for two, a flatscreen television (CNN news in English, BBC Entertainment for light relief, business and cartoon channels, French channels, and Swiss channels in French, German ad Italian. Euronews was in French. RAI was in Italian-- so this is pretty comprehensive, n'est pas?)

There is better than average hanging space in the closets, and a nice touch: there is a microwave as well as a refrigerator in a tiny catering space tucked inside a closet above its own mini sink).

The twin beds were pushed together with a single duvet spread on top. Good pillows (better than in most Spanish hotels). A ceiling fan can move the air around if needed. (There is no air conditioning -- but Geneva seldom needs it). There is under floor heating for the cooler times of the year.

The bathroom is equipped with a toilet, a screened off shower, a sink and a mirrored cabinet for your toiletries. The hair drier works, and, being safety conscious--this is Switzerland after all, is nowhere near the sink.

I had a room at the back and it was nice and quiet. I don't think there is much street side noise either.

The wifi connection for computers works, but is a trifle slow. When I stayed it cost 3 CHF for an hour, 5 CHF for three hours, and 10 CHF for a full day.

There is an excellent bar downstairs, obviously used by locals as their neighbourhood watering hole. Next to the bar is a bistrot, also used as a breakfast room.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and is arranged around fresh bread, croissants, jams and spreads, juices, yoghurts and a cereal, coffee and tea. It also comes with a little extra touch I have never encountered before: there is a bowl of uncooked eggs, in their natural state, in the cooler section of the breakfast display cabinet. Guests are invited to select an egg and boil it to their own specifications in a cooker provided on the counter next to the cabinet.

The bistrot deserves its own write up. If you are interested, you will find it under "Le Moulin a Poivre" (the Pepper Mill).

I enjoyed my stay at the Calvy, and should I need to return to Geneva, I will certainly book this affordable, and friendly, hotel again.

Very simple but well-kept hotel, close to excellent transportation ( tram very close, bus a short block away, takes you directly to the train station and the airport ), with a 15 minute brisk walk to the old city ( cathedral etc. ). The reception people are very attentive and helpful. Breakfast offered in the room price is very simple as well ( bread, croissants, jam, eggs that one cooks oneself ) but fresh and abundant. I had a room overlooking the street ( ruelle ), and found the noise from the downstairs bar / café to be tiresome on the weekend if the window is left open. A few very good restaurants / cafés in the area, less expensive than the ones in city centre. Overall, a good find in a city where hotels are truly overpriced.
