Hotel InterContinental Geneve
Ranked #16 of 109 Hotels in Geneva
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 27 June 2010

This is the only hotel in its area, next to various international organizations, and also one of the tallest, as building regulations on the lakefront, where other luxury hotels are located, are more strict.

The hotel is located in an upscale residential area. There is a small shopping center with a very good florist and Chinese restaurant behind the hotel. Public transportation is excellent, with bus line 5 stopping in front of the hotel, and many others a short walk away at Place des Nations.

The standard rooms are very small, but most do have a good view. Intercontinental Ambassador members often get upgraded to a corner junior suite. Common areas were refurbished a few years ago, and are quite stylish.

My wife and I spent 1 night in the Junior Suite nbr 1120 in Hotel Intercontinental Geneva, in order for us to see from inside what was so famous with this hotel, knowing that from outside it looks very old and quite ugly... However, we were positively surprised ! The service, the Junior Suite, the SPA and the outdoor swimming pool were as per our expectations and we really enjoyed our stay there.
Hotel is under a renovation process, so, probably rooms have all been updated now, for better of course ! The swimming pool is a must in Geneva, you can access for CHF 70.-- if you are not a client of the hotel, meaning that it's reserved for an elite only, due to such high price...

So, to resume :

POSITIVE POINTS :

- Very good service and world famous hotel in Geneva (next to United Nations)
- Spa and swimming pool are excellent
- Rooms have been renovated

NEGATIVE POINTS :

- Location is far from the lake and from City Center
- Hotel looks old and not class from outside
- no balcony

So, why not to enjoy a few days in this hotel, but better to go there in summer time, so you can enjoy the outdoor pool.

Actually, we have refurbished 2/3 of the hotel guest rooms and are glad to inform you that the renovation will normally be over at the end of 2010 (with the Royal Suite rehab on the 18th floor). As far as the building façade is concerned, it is listed on the register of the 60s-style architecture buildings, so it is not permitted for us to change it.

We would like to add that the poolside entrance is CHF 50.- (per person) during the week and CHF 80.- during the weekend.

Furthermore, we are indeed not located near the lake but for your information a travel pass is offered to each guest so that they can explore Geneva with Geneva Public Transports, this free of charge.

Looking forward to the pleasure of welcoming you and your spouse back soon to the hotel and meeting you personally on that occasion, I remain,

Nice hotel, clean, freindly staff. A little far from the city centry. However, free public transport is available with high frequency on just two minutes walking distance.

What can I say about this great modern hotel. Its incredible! To start off in Geneva there is every kind of hotel, some so expensive that they don't even worth, some good like the Manotel's and some great like this. I stayed here for 2 nights in two different rooms. So I will explain you my stay by parts.

Check in-Check out
After a long trip by train from Milan we arrived to the hotel by taxi and we were nicely welcomed to the hotel. The check in was great, the best I can say. The mexican guy at the reception was very efficient and gave us a good service. We also asked about upgrades and he proposed the Ambassador package which we bought and because we had 2 rooms he upgrade us both.He also sent us some swiss chocolates with some fruit Check out was also quite fast
I give a 5 out of 5

Rooms
1st room it was a deluxe room, which for me it was kind of normal, nice decoration, comfortable beds. Everything was fine but I didnt loved the bathroom it was kind of small and old. I don't know how is a normal size room because if this is a deluxe maybe the standard room is not that great. Nespresso
2nd room It was a Jr. suite and it was very spacious with a huge bathroom, kind of strange but nice. It had a nice cafeteria and a large tv. They also offered us internet but sadly it cost 32 CHF per day, which is actually not that expensive. But in the Manotel chain hotels they do offer free internet.
Overall both rooms were pretty nice and I recommend the Jr. Suite.

I give a 4.4 out of 5

Service
I think it was one of the best things about this hotel. All the staff offered us a great service from the check in to the room service. I really liked it and I think is pretty good for a Intercontinental
I give a 4.8 out of 5

Location
So first of all Geneva is quite small. The "luxury part" is just next to the lake but the nights cost over 450 CHF pn. Near the Train Station there are some nice not expensive but small hotels. And I thought this hotel was really next to the airport but it wasn't. It just takes about 6 minutes to the center by taxi and 10 by public transportation which is free. Is next to a very beautiful park and is the modern part of Geneva. So it's a very nice hotel but obviously you are not going walking to the lake but it's still very good. And it's SAFE
I give a 4.3

Overall

So the building is extremely nice and the lobby too. The decoration is excellent. The only thing I must say was not perfect was the restaurant. It was so expensive and so strange things that I actually didnt like it. The service was excellent and they also did have swimming pool and fitness center. I really recomend you to stay in this hotel when you come to Geneva. I put a four which is very close to a five because of a great service but is not a 5 star hotel, the restaurant was mediocre and some services were kind of over price. So stay here.

If you have any questions for Geneva please send me a message :)

So we would be grateful if you could let us know what was not exactly up to your expectations. Many thanks in advance!

We stayed here for a business trip so it was part of the conference. However, upon check-in we were told that we had to pay our own daily internet fee of 32CHF!!! We had just come from many days in France, at wonderful places, where internet access was free (as it should be). For goodness sake, if you are a business hotel, you know that everyone these days travels with computers. Just build damn rate into the room cost!!! The car parking in their dingy garage (self park) was 36CHF per night. Another ripoff. And, to add insult to injury, we were told that my husband's breakfast was taken care of by his sponsor, but that if I wanted to join him, I had to pay 45CHF each morning. What a classless place!!

Dear Madam,

We would like to thank you for having taken the time to share your experience at the InterContinental Genève with the Trip Advisor community.

We are very sorry to learn that you were disappointed by our hotel and services. For your information, the room rate negotiated with the conference organizer did not include neither breakfast for accompanying persons nor internet fee. As you may know, contrary to the United Stated, hotels in Switzerland - as well as in other countries - do unfortunately not offer internet access for the moment.

Concerning the underground private parking, we actually charge a daily rate to our guests as every hotel worldwide.

Despite this, we hope to have to pleasure of welcoming you on another occasion to the InterContinental Genève and remain,

with best regards,

This hotel was quite a disappointment, after experiencing only first class treatment at all other Intercontinental stays. The hotel really needed to be refurbished and the staff needed training in their manners dealing with the guests. The pool was closed and the hotel did not offer any great facilities. Its location is excellent and has good connections to Geneva.

Dear Madam,

We would like to thank you for having taken the time to share your experience at the InterContinental Genève with the Trip Advisor community.

Based on your lines, it seems that you were quite disappointed by our hotel. Please kindly note that, since this last stay in March 2007, in addition of the hotel public areas, the outdoor pool (opened from mid-May until mid-September) and half of our guestrooms have been totally refurbished. The room renovation will normally be finished at the end of the year.

Furthermore, concerning staff manners, you may rest assured that training sessions have been held during the past 2 years in order to show guests real Swiss hospitality and offer them the high quality of service they are entitled to. However, we would highly appreciate your pointing us out the exact department(s) which was/were not up to your expectations.

May we add that, now, a travel pass is offered to each guest so that they can explore Geneva free of charge with Geneva Public Transports.

Hoping you will give us another chance to welcome you to the InterContinental Genève soon, we remain,

with best regards,
