Geneva hotels can be summarised as a) always booked up and b) always expensive. No mystery there. But what is odd is that just metres from the one of the world's top shopping streets, the Rue du Rhône, are many 'affordable', some quite low-rent hotels.

The Hotel Longemalle isn't one of the latter but, at 200 CHF a night for a deal, is on the OK side of affordable and the lake is just a 5-minute walk, with Tod's and Gucci etc just round the corner.

Yes,It's dated a bit, but at that price, for a business on the cheap, I'd certainly go back, as it's a 10-munite walk from the office I use, and is a better standard than the Hotel Sagitta I also go to but smaller rooms.

Free wi-fi. Mini-bar, many UK TV channels - watched the World Cup final in English. Breakfast perfectly fine. Friendly staff at reception - top marks for that.

Was on 6th floor. Air-con is separate unit plumbed into window (which I left open). Bit of noise from street in the form of World Cup revellers, early builders and street cleaners.

Sunday night in Geneva is DEAD - beware if looking for cheap, last-minute late dinner round this area.

Would stay again but not as a 'special treat'.

Read the reviews below! The rooms are small, hot, and grim. The bathrooms are trapped in another era (and mine had a bad smell of mildew). There is no air conditioning except for a roll around machine that is noisy. Breakfast was so so. Foam pillows on bed. There is no closet only a "wardrobe" piece of furniture. The wifi did not work in my room. I could go on and on. And all of this for 270 euros a night!

I would never stay here again and I do not recommend this hotel even if it was only 100 euros a night.

The pictures of the outside of the hotel make it look charming. It is not charming, it is just old and tired.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms. They need a complete renovation to make this a proper hotel.

They try to keep the atmosphere of old hotel - furnisher, carpets, overall appearance. Looks nice but not always convenient in terms of easy to use.
Very hot in the rooms. No central conditioning but stand-alone conditioner which makes such a noise that it's impossible to sleep. Bathroom need some renovation.
FiWi is free and works good.

Average for business trip. Lots of dated knick knacks to make the hotel interesting. Very good views overlooking one of the city squares. The front desk service stood out as the only exceptional item for the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms with a balcony overlooking the bustling square.

Nice hotel in the middle of Geneve, the breakfast can do a bit better but the price is correct for what you get.
Nearby is the lake and nice restaurants, a nice bed is waiting after a good day s walk!
The staf is very friendly we always stay in this hotel.

You have to understand the Swiss. They embrace the art of The Deal better than most. They offer you something, you give them money. It's quite simple, and it's never personal. What you get at Longemalle is a very well placed hotel slap bang in the centre of Geneva. That's what you're paying for. Not the delights of the facility - that would be extra, but you're not going to pay extra because you're not going to get too many extras. Like a big bathroom or big room, or a quiet peaceful sleep or sumptuous breakfast. No. You will get what you pay for. We got a tiny room with a minute bathroom, so we upgraded to a slightly larger room with a minute bathroom. The floors creak, you hear the neighbour's plumbing, there's nightly carousing in the square and there's no parking. The bathrooms are begging for an upgrade. But for all that, we enjoyed our long weekend here, being close to the old town, good restaurants and shops, and the pretty-as-ever lake. The staff was helpful and efficient. Geneva was dressed in her best spring gown and looked utterly charming. And we were well placed to see it all.

This is a charming hotel old world Geneva with old world values, a baroque reception and polite efficient staff. It is superbly situated for shopping and the old town. The breakfast room is elegant with tall windows opened onto a balcony overlooking the Place d Longemalle. Along with the usual choice of Continental breakfast buffet there is an egg boiling machine and toaster so we had, do it yourself eggs with soldiers and excellent coffee. The hotel would benefit from a bar although you can use the bar and restaurant in the sister hotel next door. We will definitely return.
