I am a big supporter of culture during travel and VICTORIA HALL is a beautiful and historical part of Geneva history. It was a gift from the British Consulate to the Swiss people in the time of Queen Vicoria and the grand empire period of British history when "the sun never set" on the Empire and Britannia ruled the world. Due to such wealth they could build this gorgeous building as a gesture of international friendship and appreciation of the Swiss people.

There are many wonderful concerts and some tickets are really cheap, as little as CHF20 if you book in time. I have seen many jazz, classical and others wonderful concerts over the years. There is a little cafe too so you can go early, drink an expresso or have a glass of wine, and people watch, as it is just before the coat check and dominates a view of the main entrance.

There are many lovely restaurants in the area for a late after theater supper, which is the traditon, and you must book a reservation, as the theater crowd will be packed in everywhere around.

So cheers everyone !

There are not many concert halls left in the world that are ornate but also have great acoustics. At Victoria Hall, each concert is an event - such a beautiful and intimate space. We performed Mahler Symphony No. 2 there and even though it is a huge work, somehow it fit into this compact space. The audience was terrific and the space so compact, it felt like the audience was on stage with us.

I have been here for concerts. It is a beautiful theater with a lot of ornamentation. The seats are not the usual upholstered theater seats. They are made of woven cane. What is nice is that they are quite wide for a theater. It makes a grand setting for any concert.

Although relatively small by European standards, the Victoria Hall, a few minutes stroll from the gorgeous Place Neuve, boasts excellent ecoustics and a setting evoking the brilliance of the belle époque. Rachmaninov's 1st piano concerto was a delight, followed by Berlioz's Symphony Fantastique. Interior is truly beautiful with its gilt ornamentation, frescoed ceilings, red velvet seats and plush royal box. This more than compensates for the chaste, almost dull, reception area, although Winterhalter's portrait of Queen Victoria (after whom the hall was named) is well worth admiring. Champagne in the bar is ok but if you have time, catch your apéros at the Café Lyrique, just 3 minutes away.
