A lovely park next to the University, play chess or draughts on the mega size boards, walk to the memorial wall and climb the steps to the upper gallery for a good view of the City and Gateway to the old quarter.

This is a great park to visit right in the centre of the city. There are a number of attractions including the Mur des reformateurs, the statue that has been dedicated to good causes such as The iNternal Red Cross and Red Crescent, marking of the Geneva convention and Henry Durand, creator of the Red Cross movement.

If the sun was shining we would have taken a picnic. Unfortunately we had strong winds instead. Hey, but at least it was dry; most of the time!

No matter where you go in Geneva, you'll find yourself passing close to this magnificent, small yet marvellous park: hosting the "reformation wall" and part of the university of Geneva, it offers wide lawns, a "crystal-palace style" bar and restaurant, free wi-fi by the ville de Genève, gigantic chess boards to play for free (also late in the night, as the park is kept open... but don't make too much noise: we're in Geneva, after all!!)

Visited Parc des Bastions in March 2014 with my partner. Was very pleasant indeed watching people play on the numerous giant Chess Boards within the park itself. Very leafy area with sculptures and historic areas to visit.

I would say it would be a great place to relax and picnic in the summertime, would definately visit again and try my hand at chess perhaps!!

Even when there are many people in the park, you never feel it is crowded, we always find a bench to seat and read a book or just enjoy the view. Even on a great sunny day it is not hard to find a place to lie on a grass and feel like you are not in the center of a city. The park is nice to visit all year round (even in winter there's always something happening), though April is the best time as flowers are blooming and there are not many tourists yet.
