This hotel was a complete disappointment. We spent 5 nights at Hotel Terrace, we were ready to leave after the first night and actually considered going to a different hotel in the same town.
The hotel was treated like a playground and the staff had no control. Children were allowed to run up and down stairs and through hallways. The noise did not stop until after midnight and started again in the early hours of the morning. We asked staff multiple times to do something about the noise but nothing changed for the whole 5 nights. The restaurant service and food, were to say the least, disappointing! The rooms are extremely outdated, there is no power point in the bathroom and the t.v was the size of a ipad, We left a large letter to the manager before we left in regards to our stay and have had no reply.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room from 3rd level or up to avoid noise.

We thought we had booked a family room and a standard room for our family of five, through Vrijuit. When we arrived, it turned out we actually had 3 standard rooms in the new area, which is not a nice part of the hotel, accommodating only 2 people each, meaning that my husband and I had to split up so one of us could be with our 10 year old. There was no way the hotel was willing or able to help us out; all rooms were taken. Our reservation clearly stated 1 family room and 1 standard room, however, the staff pointed out that we had missed some fine print on the Vrijuit website. Terrace has a contract with Vrijuit allowing them to allocate 2 standard rooms as a familyroom. I guess we could have known, but I still think this is very misleading. A family room has living space. Don't sell standard rooms as family rooms if that's not what they are. A bad start of our vacation.

Wonderful view of the Frozen Mount Titlis surrounded by light clouds and The Town of Engelberg at the foot of the mountain in evening is some thing which is an astonishing. The entry in to the hotel through a tunnel is some thing never seen before. Welcomed by hot tea served at the lobby is amazing. The hotel has fantastic Indian Food and a disc to have fun at night. Rooms are good.

The hotel is a landmark in the lovely traditional Suisse village Engelberg. Because it's situated a little higher on the mountain you have a beautiful view. Eating breakfast you see the mountains, at night we saw all the (Christmas)lights in the village. Breathtaking! And don't worry, there's a great elevator system to go up and down to the village, so you don't have to climb one step to reach the hotel. We arrived by train and walked the small distance from the station to the elevator that took us to the hotel.
With Christmas the hotel had organised a Christmasfair outside the hotel, with Gluhwein heated on an open fire, Santa Claus for the kids and all kind of snacks. We played 'hammer & nail', a game where we had to smash a nail in a huge piece of wood with the small side of the hammer. Quite a challenge and great fun!
The staff was always very helpfull, the breakfast and dinnerbuffet were varied and we met people from all over the world at the dinnertable.

Room Tip: there's a wide variety in rooms, select the one that suits you best. We had a simple basic room...

We stayed 4 nights for a family skiing holiday, booked two "standard" rooms at 230 chf per night per room. The exterior pictures of the hotel are very impressive, giving a picture of late 19th century luxury and the lobby area looks nice when arriving but disappointment sets in when walking down the corridors that look like something from the Shining and arriving at our rooms that were situated in one of several annexes added to the main building. Small room for a skiing holiday, interiors in classic 70s style, beds tired, pillow (only one per bed) very small, tiny bathroom, window drafty, tv a 17 inch tube model.

Breakfast buffet was average, restaurant area very large and pretty noisy. If you manage to get a window table the views are nice, though.

On the positive side, there was live piano music in the lobby area on two nights during our stay, ans staff were friendly, cleaning ok.

The Terrace is set on the hillside above town, connected to the town below by two elevators. Nice views of the town if you get a room on that side but very impractical for a skiing holiday, no ski-in or out possible so you have to take the elevators and then walk to the skibus some 3-400 m away.

In summary, a tired, expensive hotel that needs urgent refurbishing. Go somehwere else.

Room Tip: If you still decide to book the Terrace then make sure to get a large room on the town facing side.

Superb hotel at the heart of engelberg. A must stay hotel in Switzerland. Please select the rooms in the front size as it has the view of mount titlis. Also the indian restaurant is present in the hotel which provides boga for breakfast. Very good hotels for indians. Also check in the hotel at saturday as the disco night is available on all saturdays..

Good Hotel

Room Tip: Select the room having Mount Titlis View (Front Side)

I spent two nights at the Hotel Terrace from 30th Aug and was with a group. The hotel is situated amidst a beautiful scenice set. Awesome location. If you are with a group, you will take 20 -30 minutes to reach the hotel lobby. IF you only by your family, then its perfect. From the ground level, you have to walk thru a tunnel for 5 mins, take an elevator to another level and then walk again for 5 to 7 mins, take another elevator to reach lobby level. Its fun when you are not with the group. When you are in a group, everyone hurries and rush to the elevator. Not recommended when you have lots of luggage, although you have a trolley at ground level. When I arrived at the hotel, it was freezing cold and raining as well, so it was quite an adventure. As we arrived at the lobby, I asked one of the hotel assistant,if I can take the trolley upto the room and his reply was, this is not a five star hotel and it is a three star hotel. The GM of the hotel should take note of this to train the staff on how to talk to guests. Sadly room service is not available. I was celebrating my anniversary and the hotel was not ready to bake a cake although I was willing to pay for it. I stayed in room No 321, probably one of the oldest room compared to the other rooms and has an old fashioned 14 inch TV. This room was Quite inconvenient. Remember from lobby level you have to carry your bags again to the room.

Room Tip: no room service, no assistance with luggage. Some rooms are old.
