“Friendly and beautiful”
Reviewed 16 March 2014

My wife and 3 children (19, 15, and 12) stayed here for 2 nights in March 2014. The staff were very friendly. They were waiting for us at the train station to drive us back to the hotel (which is only a 10 minute walk from train station). We had two rooms - a double and a triple with great views of the mountains. All of the staff went out of their way to make us comfortable and most if not all spoke English very well. They were able to handle all of our requests and even issued us ski lift tickets at the front desk so we did not have to wait on line at Mt Titlis. They serve a good breakfast with eggs, meats, breads, yogurt and cereals. Both nights we had drinks in the bar area after our dinner in town (that has a kids play area right next to it). The baretenders were very friendly. Especailly Gael who was great to talk with and helped us understand the area and culture. Dinner is offered upon request (in the morning). They have a number of play areas for the kids with old fashion games (e.g., blocks) and new ones (e.g., x-box). There is a hot tub on the patio.

Room Tip: We had rooms 102 and 103 (which in Europe is the 2nd floor). Each had a large balcony (at least 10...

We stayed at Edelweiss for a weekend, it was our fist time in Edelberg and at this hotel, we will definitely return. The hotel offers you free parking place for the car. Free regular service to the base of the gondola up the slopes, and you can buy the ski passes at the concierge.
They had been very helpful and the general service had been excellent.
Breakfast is ok but I definitely recommend to take dinner at the hotel's restaurant, we had the buffet, very good quality of food and great service, and the overall rate was much more cheaper than other restaurants we went in Edelberg.
After the ski day you con relax at the bar, with good live music and very nice atmosphere.
This hotel is ideal for families as well, they have some areas prepared with games and different activities for the kids.
The rooms are ok, I think they need to be refreshed a little bit, we had two rooms, one with 3 beds for the kids and one for us, in our room the tv was too small, which in our case it is not a big issue, but I have to say that this tv was not in accordance with the hotel.
We had an excellent time, if you are going to Edelberg with kids I strongly recommend this hotel.

Edelweiss is like a family living room away from home. Nice people, good wine and food...excellent service. We have been here for the third year in a row and enjoyed it every time. Some guests have been returning for their winter holidays' for more then 10 years.

Visited this place during my last visit to engelberg while on a trip with family. To start with the owners were warm, very warm. Greeted every guest individually with an amazing welcome. The rooms are perfect for 2 to 3 people depending on the selection you make. Almost all rooms have an amazing view as the place is atop a hill so on all sides you see the serene town and ofcourse the grand titlis.
The bar is open till night amd the girls who operate the desk are all very helpful in telling you about what to do at engelburg. The place also has wifi and is very well located in the town for the trains service or to reach the clubs or restaurant at engelburg.
The place is good /great /amazing for travellers of all kinds. Strongly recommended.

We stayed March 2013 (sorry about the delay) Susanne, Peter and their team couldn,t do enough for us. High winds stopped the lifts on a couple of days but Susanne was soon into the dining room to announce that they would organise walks as alternate entertainment for the day.
The rooms were well equipped, the public rooms all had a great atmosphere.
We were collected from the station on arrival and there was a shuttle service to the cable cars for guests.
Food was all very good including the night excursion to the 300year old farm house for dinner and then the candlelit walk back to the hotel.
We are not skiers but enjoyed the walks and mountains that Engelberg had to offer.
We hope to return in the summer in the near future, we had a great holiday.

Room Tip: Book a late flight from Zurich and stop off in Lucerne for few hours on your way home.

We stayed as a family of 4 at the Edelweiss over Christmas and could not have asked for a more wonderful "white Christmas" experience. The view from the room was breathtaking. We also really appreciated and enjoyed the complimentary activities that week - the welcome drinks around the fire, the horse and carriage ride around the town, the trip up the mountain to the Flumatt restaurant and the Christmas carols around the tree in the garden. The kids had a brilliant time. They loved meeting Globi the Swiss TV character, feeding the fish with Suzanne and playing in the playroom with the toys. Special thanks to Peter and Suzanne for organising a delicious birthday cake for my son's birthday and playing happy birthday on the organ grinder. Another special thanks to Sophie who was fantastic with the kids in the evenings! Thanks for making our stay such a memorable one. We would love to come back one day!

***NOTE TO SUSANNE & PETER***: Dear Susanne & Peter, I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to write this promised review for you following the spectacular stay you provided to my girlfriend and me during New Year's Eve this year.

SUMMARY: If my intent to leave a personal note to the owners, Susanne and Peter Kuhn, does not sufficiently illustrate how much we valued their hospitality, then I don't know what does. Their insistence to call their "hotel" their "home" should best illustrate this point. Indeed, during our 4 nights' stay to close out 2013 and celebrate New Year's Eve, we did not feel as if we were merely staying in another hotel, but rather a dear family friend's home. Suffice to say, we would ABSOLUTELY stay there again on our next trip to Engelberg; indeed, we look forward to it!

PROS: Susanne and Peter -- and their son, Felix -- provided a genuine warmth and hospitality of the sort one would expect visiting family friends. From the personal care, attention to detail, and intent to bring together all the hotel -- er, "house" -- guests round the fireplace and bar in the evenings, we couldn't have asked for a more wonderful experience. And the New Year's Eve dinner was absolutely second-to-none, suffice to say, the most spectacular five-(six?)course meal we've ever enjoyed. That my girlfriend and I were given a warm embrace goodbye from Susanne on our departure day just further illustrates the personal level of hospitality we enjoyed. Let me put it another way: we actually felt a bit embarrassed that we did not show up to the New Year's Eve party with a bottle of champagne for our hosts. Seriously.

CONS: Are you kidding me?? (And for people who complained about the steep and -- admittedly -- slippery driveway, as others have pointed out, Peter, Susanne, or Felix will personally pick you up from the train station; just give them a call upon once you're en route.)

NET-NET: stop searching for hotels in Engelberg and just stay here. Trust me.

Room Tip: Definitely -- DEFINITELY -- spend the extra money and book the room with a view of the mountain. Jus...
