Getting a lake view room at The Art Deco Montana is a must! The room was nicely decorated with good beds. This hotel is not only beautiful and well-maintained, but well run with a friendly and accommodating staff, including Boris - the concierge who was very helpful. Dining here was enjoyable. The food and service were good. The funicular was a fun way to get down to town being that the hotel is high up on a hill. Very highly recommended!

Me and my Husband had the very lucky experience of staying here Friday to Sunday.
The hotel is lovely and we stayed in a very nice room with a little balcony overlooking the lake. We had two single beds pushed together but to be honest we weren't bothered, I have never seen anything like it, waking up to the sun shining on the water and seeing the boats and the mountain view is something i could get used to, absolutely beautiful views, this is the same in the restaurant and the bar. I recommend breakfast out in the veranda type room, walk through the dining room to the right the door is open and you can enter a glass windowed balcony type veranda, the views are so amazing to look at whilst you enjoy the tasty breakfast.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, the room was very clean and the food was delicious.
There is a little cable car attached to the side of the hotel in the lobby which takes you down the small hill to the lake front rather than having to go out the main entrance and walk down the back street.
The bar is gorgeous, quite small but no trouble with getting served, it has all kinds or rum and whiskey if you like that tipple!! On the Friday night there was a very good piano player and on the Saturday a live band. It was very packed on The Saturday, i presume it is a popular place to go even if you are not a hotel guest.
Lucerne is lovely but extremely expensive, the views are amazing, i recommend a boat trip round the lake and it takes minutes just to cross the road and walk along the lake front into the town.
I would love to go back (although i think only possible if we won the lottery!!), we had a fantastic opportunity to stay here and i am so glad we went.

Room Tip: Any one with a Lake view is so worth it...

Dear Claire

We thank you so much for your feedback on TripAdvisor. The HOTEL MONTANA team is happy to read that you had a wonderful stay with us. The funicular from lake promenade to our hotel lobby was built between 1912-1914 and it’s the shortest funicular in the world (title from Guinness world records.) Even we are still impressed from the marvelous view over lake Lucerne and mountains from the MONTANA hill.

We hope to welcome you again!

We spent 2 nights at the Montana last week for a birthday trip and had an incredible time.

The room (lake view, superior double) was beautiful and a magical spot for room service on the balcony.

The food (incl. breakfast) was faultless and enjoyed with an unbelievable view of the lake and mountains.

The Front of House staff couldn't have been more polite or helpful and we were touched by the bottle of Prosecco and the personal birthday card they left in our room.

I've stayed in many 4/5 star hotels but this one really is my favourite. I usually never stay somewhere twice, but I will definitely return to the Montana.

This is a stylish Art Deco hotel located on a hill just outside of the old city. If you book a lakeside room you will be assured of fantastic views of the lake and Lucerne. The staff are friendly and helpful. The double room we had was very comfortable, with a large bathroom, though we noticed that some rooms were also quite small. There is no gym or pool. The free internet is good, although in some rooms the WiFi signal is a bit weak.

Dear John

We thank you for your feedback on TripAdvisor. The whole team is happy to read that you had an enjoyable time in our house.

Unfortunately, we can not offer our guests a pool because we do not have enough space. Our new penthouse spa suites with a private whirlpool on the rooftop offer an exclusive alternative. In summer, the wonderfully refreshing Lake Lucerne invites to bathe. End of May the opening of our MONTANA Beach Club with rainforest shower, cabanas and whirlpool takes places. As an other option we offer our guests at the nearby fitness center a reduced admission for the generous bath and fitness area.

We hope to welcome you again!

Best regards

We stayed in a lake view double room with our 18 month daughter and loved every minute. The room was spacious enough despite what others have written about double rooms. We had our daughter set up in her travel cot and there was plenty of room to move and no one was tripping over each other. We didn't see any other double rooms but ours was great. The hotel was surprisingly family friendly for the type of hotel it was with the rubber ducky and leopard puppet wash cloth being a great hit with our girl. Definitely worth paying that bit extra for a lake view. The funicular down to the lake was very handy. The reception staff were very friendly and always helpful. The concierge was very helpful finding out information about road closures etc for our drive out of lucerne. The food at the restaurant was pricey but expected - lucerne in general is expensive and this restaurant has a very good reputation. Our only issues was the lack of independent temperature control in the room (though our daughter slept very well in the warm room!) and they were a bit slow taking our order when out on the terrace, but once the order was taken the food was delivered timely. Would stay again if the opportunity arose.

Room Tip: Worth getting lake view. We were in 509 which was lovely.

if spending $300 then pay more and make it a lake view for $400. May is still off season since temp still in 50's for the high. we had rain on and off but was still gorgeous Mountains were full of snow what a view for a florida boy.

we had good size room and bathroom for Europe this room would be considered huge, for usa normal size. hotel old world charm with an actual key to the door.

bar lounge had a scotch or rum drinker in heaven. I have never seen such a selection. we had nice breakfast included.
two downsides
1) two twins pushed together
2) no a/c, so if it was hot out may be an issue, not an issue for when we went. if aug. or july check weather and good luck in getting a room. this place i can tell is packed in summer. the outside tables all around not being used now and a boaters heaven.
overall, i highly recommend Montana since i did walk by many others right on lake and not so impressed.

one more thing they have an elevator that takes you down the hill to lake and only 1 minute ride.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights for our wedding anniversary. I mentioned at the time of booking (2 months earlier) that it would be our wedding anniversary and our room was sprinkled with rose petals, the staff had written us a card and there was a complimentary bottle of prosecco in the minibar. The staff were always friendly and welcoming and gave us a lot of information anout the city and excursions and other activities in the region.

The hotel is expensive, but so are all other hotels in Luzern (and elsewhere in Switzerland), so we still felt we got value for money. To get a room with a view over the lake and the mountains costs extra, but is well worth it!

One criticism: there is a "day spa" (which costs extra to use), but no fitness centre or swimming pool in the hotel itself - there is an arrangement to use these facilities at another hotel a short walk away but, for the rates being charged, you would expect such a hotel to have these facilities itself.

Room Tip: Book early! Ask for a room with a lake view, ideally on the higher floors in the hotel for the best...
