“Nice hotel, complicated floor plan”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

I stayed for one night in the hotel. On top floor we had meeting rooms booked for a seminar.

Overall the quality of the room is excellent. All is provided, you have free fruit, water, nespresso. It is true that there is only single doses of shampoo available, but this is per person, so plenty of bathroom amenities to get a long.

The room itself was superclean. The only downside for me is that my room 3101 was located near the main entrance. So whenever people were coming or out at night or in the morning, you could still hear them and enjoy how they were spending their night.

Breakfast and services are great, on the top floor there is a bar and a penthouse where you get an amazing view across Luzern.

Because Luzern is so small, you can do everything by foot from the hotel.

Staff is very friendly. My bagage got lost and they were very helpfull with all the questions we had regarding this.

Main problem for me was the complicated floor plan. You actually get a map on how to go to the several restaurants in the hotel. It is quite complicated how to figure out to go to a certain place in the hotel. It took me 15 minutes to get from the penthouse to my own room the first time. The room numbering also did not make any sense. I was in room 3101 and it was located on the ground floor near the lobby.

Dear Wim1984,

Thank you for your detailed feedback on tripadvisor. We are happy that you enjoyed our Business Deluxe room and our Nespresso machine which we New have in all our Business Deluxe and Design rooms. Your great compliment we will love to pass to our, as you say, very friendly staff. Regarding the floor plan we have to challenge that our hotel were built into tree different buildings which can make the connections rather difficult. Unfortunately the given structure of the buildings currently does not allow an immediate change of the floor plan situation. However, we have noted your useful advice for the future. Once again we thank you for your great feedback and would be pleased to welcome you again soon at the Hotel Astoria Lucerne.

Yours sincerely,
Martin Brügger

So I stayed here in June 2014 for two nights with some friends. Room was nicely 'decorated,' and it felt clean and classy.
Hotel was within walking distance (2-3 blocks) to a local market under the train.
My only complaint was the front receptionists were indifferent, and one was a little rude when asking for help more than once. Maybe a bad day for them or that is their culture?

Literally!!!
There was a large opening at the side of the bed & 2 metres away was the toilet with no door!
Obviously I complained and was told it was "designer."
The new room was improved (door) small but clean if sterile, functional - staff friendly, b/fast included, good value.
Maybe stay in a little hotel on the water instead.

The Astoria Hotel is centrally located in Lucerne, we were able to walk everywhere. The staff were ok although they did not wake us as requested. The excuse was the system was not working. The room was clean and spacious. The best thing about this hotel was its location, see the title.

The Hotel Astoria has excellent Seminar Support staff! A Seminar staff person showed up as soon as I arrived in the morning and throughout the day was helpful and knowledgable about assisting me in getting set up for the training sessions I led. I've heard people complain about poor or unfriendly service in Switzerland, but I can tell you that the Hotel Astoria is certainly an exception to that.

Recently stayed at Hotel Astoria during our tour through Europe, and this was our only disappointing hotel experience. First, we were taken my the tiny amount of bathroom amenities that were provided. The shampoo was provided a single "packet", which wouldn't suffice for the three of us. When my wife found a housekeeper, she asked for additional shampoo and was given another packet. The housekeeper had nicer bathroom products on her cart in bottles, but we were given the impression those were for guests who were NOT on a tour package. That was a huge turn-off.

Also, the food at this place was poor. We had a group dinner in the restaurant one evening, and the food was barely palatable. We were given some type of fish that was cover in an odd thick yellow sauce with tasteless rice and brocolli, Also the breakfasts were so unimpressive, and the worst we had in our two weeks through Europe.

This spotless hotel is situated in the new Lucerne and does have any lake views. The top floor is the restaurant/penthouse/terrace from which you catch a glimpse of the rooftops of the new Lucerne and an interesting view of the sunrise over the mountains if you are an early riser.
This hotel caters to tour groups because it does not have the location appeal of many of the other hotels closer to the Old Lucerne. The distance to Old Lucerne is 3 blocks and, at a discount, the walk is worth it. Just don't expect a nice hotel front or lobby: this is on a side street off Pilatustrasse and the façade is not very obvious or fancy.
The wifi was reasonably fast and reliable although you have to log in every day.
The rooms are average size for North America, large by european standards. Our room was on the second floor on the street. The street noise did come in to the room somewhat and could disturb a very light sleeper. The beds were two double beds of average rigidity with a duvet for cover. The room is air conditioned if you insert your room card. Into the control mechanism. AC was not required on our mid June stay because the night time tempertures nights went down to 13-15oC.
The hotel has a few different towers and elevator shafts which makes it a little bit confusing.
Our room was ready for early check-in, a blessing for overseas travellers pulling from the hour drive from Zurich.
The bathroom was fully covered by 12 by 24 granite tiles of brownish orange and black tinge. This is very elegant but it made the bathroom a little bit dark. The lighting is not quite sufficient and checking your progress while shaving forces you to get very close to the mirror.
The breakfast buffet was complete with cold meats, cheese, canned fruit salad, scrambled eggs and a selection of good bread which can be toasted. The breakfast room is on top of the hotel which allows you to see the rooftops around the hotel. The staff do a good job of repleneshing the platters of food in spite of the groups coming in. Some tour groups are really aggressive about grabbing food which makes it uncomfortable for everyone. Only american coffee is available but it tastes good.
At a discount to the hotels of equivalent value in the old town, i would return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms low on the street side which get noisy during soccer matches shown in the cafe on th...
