Great location, excellent service! It's right on the river, next to Kapellbrücke. The restaurant was good, a bit pricey, we had dinner on the balcony, and it was worth the 15-minute wait for the table.
The reception staff was very welcoming and accommodating. I would definitely consider Hotel des Alpes for my next trip to Lucerne.

As the other reviewers state this is a fine hotel with an absolutely great location. I don't know why they don't state on their website directions to getting to the hotel. We finally parked and walked to the hotel to get the directions. The lady at the front desk was extremely friendly, and said that we should put Kappellplatz into our GPS. The exact address does not always work on most GPS systems. She also gave us option of two different places to park, and we picked the one closest, at the train station which added 100CHF to our bill for 3 nights (but you can drive in and out). That didn't surprise us, because when you stay in the pedestrian part of town, you usually have to pay to park. While we were there it was not hot, but I am sure the rooms could be quite warm when it is hot. We really enjoyed sitting on our balcony. We had gotten some good recommendations on Swiss wine, and enjoyed people watching, and looking at the fabulous view. The TV in the room didn't work, and when we told them that, the next day we had a new TV. For the most part the front desk people were very nice, however one was rather impatient with us when we tried to get help printing out our boarding passes. I also asked her what time we needed to leave the hotel in order to get to the Zurich Airport. She advised that she had no idea..........which was no help to us at all. She could have at least told us what the drive is like during traffic hours and non-peak time. Then we could have made our own decision. It seems like that is the kind of information the front desk would freely give. We were on the 3rd floor, and we did hear the foot traffic ---there was a jazz festival going on. Maybe we were very jet lagged, because it didn't bother us. We did have to log in to get the wifi everytime. But they gave us codes for all of our devices.

Room Tip: Splurge and get a balcony. You will love it.

I enjoyed my stay at the Hotel des Alpes. It is an older hotel but sits in an excellent location in Old Town along the river. It is within walking distance of the train station and the lake is right across the street. The room was small but clean, and I had a view back over the roof tops to the fortress on the hills whose towers are illuminated at night. The people at the front desk were welcoming and friendly. I especially enjoyed the expansive breakfast that included fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, meat, cheeses and many different kinds of bread. They also had a toaster which is not all that usual in Switzerland. The coffee was good and the wait staff friendly. While not fancy, the Hotel des Alpes serves as a nice place to stay for a few nights in Lucerne.

This is one of several hotels along the river, but its location -- overlooking the Kapellbrucke, among many riverside restaurants, and an easy walk from the lakefront and train station -- can't be beat. Rooms were fine, although not fancy, and we found the front desk staff to be helpful and courteous. The only disadvantage is the lack of nearby parking for those with a car, but we expected that; and it should be no surprise to anyone who has done a bit of online research on the area. It is in the old town, after all, and we were glad to trade a short walk for the area's (mostly) traffic-free charm. Everything in the Old Town (as well as Switzerland in general) is somewhat pricey, but there's a reason for that, and we found the experience to be well worth it.

The hotel is located very close to the train station. When we arrived in Luzern, we took the cab as was tired of journey and were with kids and taxi took CHF 20. However, if you don't have much luggage, its max 5 minutes walk from the station. The staff is very friendly. There was an unfortunate electricity break-down in Swiss train system and we arrived at hotel very late. The staff was in touch with us late night on phone and we checked in around 3 am with lots of ease.
Lion monument is almost 10 minutes walk and most restaurants including Halal food restaurants are close by.
Breakfast was good as well and I definitely recommended this Hotel for stay.

Room Tip: i am not sure if all rooms are facing the Chapel Bridge, but you can check from staff and get the ro...

If you are going to spring for a room with a view Hotel des Alpes is a great place to do so. We were on the 5th floor overlooking the lake, which gave us a "take a step back in time" feeling every time we stepped onto our small balcony. All about the location at this hotel; room was small, but up-to-date. No AC as mentioned in other reviews, but not a problem for us in early June. Included self-service breakfast was fresh and bountiful. Dinner on the upper terrace was very good and not overpriced, considering it has one of the best views in the city. The overall rating of 5 instead of 4 is weighted by staff excellence in general and the hotel manager in particular. Happened to noticed I was searching on the guest computer in the lobby and asked if she could be of assistance and she most certainly was. We were slightly agonizing about where to have dinner to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and after a brief rundown of Lucerne's top tables, she thought we'd be happiest dining on the Scala Terrace at Hotel Montana. Reservations were made for us in the blink of an eye and the result was that we were delighted beyond words. It is the perfect celebration spot. The terrace view high above Lucerne was positively breathtaking with the setting sun, the food was excellent, and while not inexpensive, it was a good value for the overall quality of the food, location, and service. A perfect evening we shall never forget. We would stay at the Hotel des Alpes again if lucky enough to return to Lucerne.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less street noise if you want to leave your window open.

Least favorite of the 5 hotels we stayed in on our 2-week trip to Switzerland. Why? - uninformed and somewhat disinterested hotel reception staff, tiny bathroom with no ammenities other than bathwash, incredibly difficult to use hair dryer, difficult to get to with a car (added $120 cf to our cost to park 3 days at the train station!). Since they are difficult to reach with a car & they freely admit that GPS doesn't work well to get you there, WHY wouldn't they be informative with exact driving directions for dropping off your luggage? They were just as uninformed when we were leaving as to how to return to the main roads. Completely opposite of the other places we stayed. Breakfast was adequate, but not quite as varied as compared with other hotels. Plus side - lovely location for walking to most sites, lovely views from lakeside rooms over the Chapel Bridge, Lake Lucerne & distant Alps. Great riverside dining for evening cappuccinos & delicious mousse! We were on the top floor with a fantastic lake view from our window, but no balcony even though we requested a balcony room about a month prior to arrival. Probably because we were on the top floor, noise from busy riverside restaurants below was not a problem. Not sure if I would stay here again if I had a car, and wouldn't stay unless I could have a lakefront room. GREAT dinners at nearby BODU (French Bistro) & Hotel Balances. It was really hot though, & even the provided fan couldn't do much to cool down the room (not the hotels fault of course) just be aware if traveling in the summer.

Room Tip: Only lakefront! And the higher the better. Request a balcony, you might get lucky!
