I suggest a 4 1/2 hours visit. The most interesting is trains (2 hours) with a giant model scale of the Gotthard (not the Base Tunnel) which you should look from every corner (30 min)

Planes and space merit one hour. You may enter a Convair Coronado, one of the first four motor jets, with only 3+2 seats in a row. It was an extraordinary machine.

Ships should take one more hour, specially if you know about sail competition. (The swiss are awesome sail sailors)

The last 30 min are for cars.

If you have kids, there are lot of activities for them.

Thank Miguel F

In a rainy day at Lucerne, our gentle receptionist at hotel we're staying suggested this museum or Rotshild's (Picasso). Since the weather was no good for outside adventures.

The so called "interactive activity" exists, but so rudimentary and simple that applies more to little children. In fact there is a pedagogic issue over the evolution in the main transports ways (trains/locomotives, boats, cars and airplanes) but you can find those information at any google research as well....
The best interactive rides were the helicopter and the airplane jet simulators rides, that you can easily find also in the big malls at America...
I should had gone to see Picasso again...

Dont miss this museum if you are in Luzern. You get Bus no. 6 from Station to reach there. Its worth your time. Very informative with real models. Collection of Vintage vehicles is splendid !!
The scale itself is awe inspiring. And if you are from technical background - you just can not afford to miss this.
And yes, there is free wi-fi too :)

Take plenty of time to enjoy this museum. It has all types of transport history. I especially enjoyed the railroad exhibits with the original rail cars and engines. The aerospace section is also great! You could spend an entire day here with no difficulty!
