“This can't be Switzerland”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

I spent 26-06-204 in this hotel as a member of a Cosmos tour group. I can’t understand why anyone gives any stars to this hotel they only bring a bad name to the country. I live in the UK but four of my friends who came from Sri Lanka with their lifetime savings it was a really disappointment. This hotel ruined one day of our holiday and I will be writing to the Swiss Tourist Board asking to look into this hotel and refund our money.

In the coach the guide said the hotel do not allow; Phone charging, hair drying, tea/coffee making. Most of all she said we are not allowed to make Chinese Pot Noodle in the room as it make the room smelly. This made our Chinese members in the group embarrassing and kept some of us hungry in that night. We were also asked to climb five floors to our rooms as the only lift which is about 4 x 4 feet was busy with porters taking luggage.

In all rooms had no TV, no AC, and not even a radio. We could not use our radios as we had no access to electricity. Internet connection cost 5.00 Euros. There was only one pillow per person.

The person at the front desk (she is an owner as we learnt later) bluntly refused to give me an electric fan even without saying sorry. I have recorded this event on video for evidence.
We had to leave the windows open in the night but it was still too warm for a sleep and the vehicles, road sweepers, drunks and football crowds kept us awake all night. Following day most of us were sleeping on the bus.

2 star at best! Stayed here for one night as part of tour. Small single room that had an overwhelming stench of mould when I first opened the door. Lady from reception was on our floor so asked her to come and see. She said it was the woven matting that lined the lower half of walls, and that this was the normal smell for the room. Asked if I could change rooms...she said this was the normal smell for ALL their rooms. Then requested housekeeping to spray the room, and was told this wouldn't help, would smell like this again after 5 minutes! She acted as if it was too bothersome to remedy, then said she was busy and dashed off. Gave up and stayed, as was for only one night. Room so small that I kept tripping over suitcase. Put it on small shelf (which it overhung) but couldn't open it fully as lid kept hitting the low TV (which didn't work). Old and dated furnishings, hot and stuffy room, couldn't open window properly and no air con. Small single bed which I fell off once, then had to press against smelly matting on wall to stay on the bed.Sheer curtains let in light and half-opened tiny window let in street noise, even though room was facing the back of the hotel. Shower was good, nice and hot....wish breakfast had been the same. The location of the hotel is excellent, close to the main street, Bucherers, Casagrande and Lake Luzern, but location is the only thing going for this hotel. You've been warned.

Room Tip: Hearing from fellow travelers, there does not seem to be a good room.

My room was only small with a single bed but the bathroom was a nice size and I was delighted to find an extra magnifying mirror attached to the wall length mirror which was excellent for applying my makeup. The staff were lovely and friendly and the lady who owns the hotel was extremely friendly - we were lucky to arrive in Lucerne the night Switzerland won the soccer so everyone was in a great mood. The owner lent 2 of our younger tour members her Switzerland flags and they had the best time running up and down the footpath - some people even thought they were Swiss natives and had their photos taken with them. The lift is small but the stairs if you are fit enough are no problem.

We stayed at this hotel as part of our Cosmos tour. The rooms are old and worn and in need of desperate renovation. There is no air conditioning so the rooms are quite hot and stuffy, but if you open the windows for fresh air it is impossible to put up with all the traffic noise and people walking past also being noisy all night. The window shutters and sheer curtains in the rooms do not block out the sun at all.

The female manager was extremely rude to us and is in desperate need of a course in customer service. The breakfast was horrible and hardly anything to choose from. I would not recommend this hotel to stay in and will never go back.

Stayed here as part of Cosmos tour. Renovated room was done nicely and location was good, although our view was onto the street below. We paid for wifi and had no end of trouble with it - don't bother. Only one small lift so you can imagine how long it took to get bus load plus suitcases to rooms. No air conditioning. When I asked about this I was told just to open the window, but with all the traffic noise it was impossible to sleep. Only net curtains and shutters which let light in. I understand its not warm/hot for very long but at least they could supply pedestal fans for the stuffy rooms. Breakfast average, ran out of spoons, knives, milk and yoghurt.

First had to use stairs every time, the elevator is barely large enough for 1-2 and forget taking luggage on it. The location is great could see the lake and Alps from room if you open the metal shutters, and we had to open windows to cool off. However the entire block had construction noise constantly and who knew Lucerne had so much traffic noise at night. So many motorcycles revving up. Expenses abound, for extra key had to put a deposit of $20. euro or francs. I liked the restaurant, and the breakfast was nice.

Room Tip: Ask for first floor so you do not have to rely on the mini elevator.

There is a line when it comes to budget hotels. This one is definitely below that line. No air conditioning, noisy main road location, tiny beds, a single elevator that fits 4 people, $2 euros for a glass of ice, for which you have to wait 20 minutes, TV with 3 channels all of which transmit in German. And in charge of the place you'll find a couple of older women in desperate need of a customer service attitude adjustment who will leave you feeling sour for having stayed here. We were literally shooed (with hands and all) out of the restaurant for sitting in the wrong table!

Appalling doesn't cover it -be warned!
