“Comfortable, clean stay for a great deal!”
Reviewed 21 December 2013

Clean, neat, and modern interior (the hotel room). The lobby looks charming, decorated with cute Swiss knick-knacks, from what I remembered. One of the few European hotels that offers one room for 5-6/7 people at a great rate! The bedroom wasn't too cramped for my family of five to suffer. Bathroom is quite lovely and spacious. Staff are fluent in English and are very friendly! Hotel also features a well-maintained pool and hot tub.

Good location in my opinion. 10 min. walk from the Luzern train station. Very close walking distance to the Old Town.

I booked a double room for 5 nights; the sorrounding environment is quite noisy, especially at night. The Hotel has no car park, you need to use an expensive one located 150-200 m from the hotel (fee: 20 CHF per night). The room was nothing special, I particularly didn't like the moquette, but this is not necessarily a problem for you depending on your tastes/habits. Housekeeping service works well.

We booked the room for 5, which, even for European standards, was a squeeze. We were there during a heat wave & of course there was no A/C, but the fan didn't work. We asked to have it fixed, and it was too late in the day, so they said it would be fixed the next day. When we got back from our adventures the next day, it still wasn't fixed. The man at the desk was apologetic & it was finally fixed the day before we left. Again, the room was very small for 5 people with luggage, but it was do-able. The towels were big, but not very soft and there were very early bakery deliveries (our room was right on the street), so don't plan to sleep in at all.

Was given a room in Hotel Baslertor instead, the hotel was not so cheap when i booked it as it was on a peak period. Room was quite small for a family of three to fit. There were no free bottles of mineral water and a small bottle of Evian water or Hot water costs CHF5. The hotel was not easy to find as it was in a quiet street and i ended up taking a cab from the main station to the hotel which is quite close. The elevator in Hotel Baslertor is very small but can fit 2 person with luggage at a time.

Room Tip: Try not to walk to the station if you have heavy luggage. There's some stairs you have to pass i...

A lovely little hotel right in the heart of the tourist area of Luzern on the southside of the river, less than 10min walk from the main station. Quaint not modern, nice swimming pool and jacuzzi in the garden. Don't expect all the mod cons, but this is a great little hotel for the price.

not cheap, but very quiet street and central location.
Breakfast was not what it was advertised.
Small room, but ok , we were with 5 in the room.
We didn't spend much time in the guesthouse so we were happy with it because it was so close to eveything interesting.

breakfast dissapointing , was not as advertised, all very minimal and standard hotel food.

This was our least favorite hotel on our month long trip to Europe. On the plus side, it was budget friendly, and the linens and bathroom were clean. The housekeeping staff was nice, as well. On the minus side, the check-in woman at Hotel Baslertor was not nice. I was able to ignore one particularly snide comment upon check-in, but when we had a small problem with the room, she was not only unhelpful, but unbelievably rude and condescending. I was so upset I cried in our room, and it unfortunately got our time in Switzerland off to a bad start. First impressions last a while. Fortunately, we met other people in town who were nice, and that helped a great deal. It was in the low 90s when we visited, and there is no air conditioning in the hotel, and the pull chain on the fan in our room was broken off at the base, so it was permanently set on low, which didn’t help much! We managed to tie dental floss to the chain so we could pull it and increase the speed to high. That, and keeping our door open, which allowed a breeze to blow through from the river (the window was open across the landing) made it bearable. No picnicking is allowed in the room (which was extremely tiny for our family of five), and the snacks in the machine on our landing were very expensive--5 Swiss francs for a soda, and 3 for a candy bar. Switzerland is expensive, but that is ridiculous. We stayed in a number of hotels and apartments during our stay in Europe, and we liked them all--except for this one! If you can afford something better, stay somewhere else.
