I stayed in this hotel with my family including 2 kids. I would differ from what other travellers had mentioned. we stayed on the 5th floor and was very quiet. No issues with any noise or the pub adjoining the hotel. The room are very clean, spacious. We had a room with a double bed (king size) and an adjacent room with a bunk bed. The children liked it a lot. The toilet was modern and very clean. The staff were very courteous and helpful. I agree there an issue with the lift , being small and the walls moving, but its acceptable. we stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay. Breakfast is provided by their sister 4 star hotel which is almost adjacent to it. Very close to railway station, lake and eateries/shops.
I would stay there again.

Great room for 3. Second bed isolated cleverly. Neat and clean. Walking distance to Train station, boat and literally everythng else. Located in a quite back street.
Lift is small and breakfat serverd in another hotel altogether.

Room Tip: 4th floor room with 3 bed is quite pleasant.

My daughter and I booked a room in this hotel to do some sightseeing of Luzern. The location is very central, walking distance to good restaurants, shopping and tourist sites. Unfortunately I was in a hurry when making the reservation and did not have time to read other reviews of this hotel that indeed mention the noise… As it happened, the person who took my reservation did not care to warn me of the possible noise, even more so on a Friday night... There were only 2 rooms left on the same floor (1st floor above ground floor). I cannot begin to tell you how noisy it was. There are several bars on that street, and there was heavy noise until 5 am, after which garbage trucks started going by… The rooms on that floor (and I have doubts on 2nd or 3rd floors) should have sound proof windows as requisite to function as a hotel.

Room Tip: avoid first floor!

Dear MIFFYTRAV...

We thank you very much for your stay at the hotel *** ALPINA Lucerne and for taking the time to give us your important feedback. We are very sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow us to express our sincere apologies.

Thank you for your kind feedback about the good location of the hotel ALPINA Lucerne. Very close to the train station, Lake Lucerne and the main attractions of Lucerne. We have many lovely restaurants around the hotel ALPINA Lucerne with Italian food, Greece food or Thai food our reception staff can recommend to everyone a nice restaurant. We have a very good location in the middle of the town, it is normally that could be a little bit noisy.

We are sorry to hear us, that it was very noisy during the night. We apologize for any inconvenience. We will immediately contact the owner of the bar and tell them that the Securitas must be with the loud guests stricter.

We hope to welcome you again at our hotel ALPINA Lucerne and we hope you had a safe journey home.

Kind regards

This is a hidden gem if you want value. This hotel is listed as a three star but is partnered with the four star Hotel Monopol right around the corner. This worked out for us because the breakfast for the Alpina is at the Monopol so we got a 4 star breakfast without paying 4 star prices. It is also a good idea to buy parking from the hotel instead of a garage as the garages in this area can go for 50 CHF per night. The hotel only charges 5 CHF per night but it is on the street and only good from 19:00 to 11:00. This is a great deal if you are going to be driving around the city or into the mountains during the day. The hotel is 1 block from dining and nightlife as well as the covered bridges.

Room Tip: Get a room on the inner courtyard as the service trucks are loud and out and about early.

A nice modern hotel very conveniently located near the main train station. Staff were welcoming on arrival and departure and were happy to help out with any queries. The room we stayed in was very spacious, Wi Fi was good and breakfast was very nice. Some pointers though, we found it hard to charge our phones for some reason. It would held the charge but not fully charge them. Also, like other places in Switzerland its expensive.

This was the third hotel I stayed in on a recent trip around Switzerland. The hotel is in a great location in Lucerne and very central, but it is quite noisy in the evenings. There is a nightclub downstairs so we were unable to sleep with the window open (and it was quite hot!). You just have to cross your fingers that you get a room far away from it!

The lift is outdated and a death trap (the old style elevators where the walls move as you ascend/descend). If you have children, keep them away from it!

Onto the room... We had been given one on the fifth floor. It was modern and beautiful and I couldn't tell that it was only 3 stars, it was one of the nicest rooms I've stayed in! Unfortunately, it seems as if the hotel has upgraded a few rooms and there are only a handful of these nice "upgraded" rooms. The rest seem basic and honestly, if I had been given one of the older rooms and seen the modern ones, I would complain. To my knowledge, I did not pay extra for the nicer room and it's the sole reason why I'm scoring the hotel so high. Ours didn't have a bar or safe but that was okay for us. Wifi was good enough. The view was lovely. The breakfast was in the other hotel which may be annoying for some but it was one of the better hotel breakfasts I'd had.

Would definitely stay again, but only if they gave me one of the more modern rooms.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the bar and I'm pretty sure all the fifth floor rooms are modern, not sure...

The hotel is very close to the station and is central. However for me, the hotel itself was very basic and a bit dated. The bathroom looks very dated but it was clean and served it's purpose. You check-in and have breakfast at the sister hotel, The Monopol, which was nice and if possible I would recommend staying at the Monopol instead. The Alpina had no wifi and the walls were particularly thin! Make sure you go to the bar at the top of the Monopol as it has amazing views. Overall, the Alpina was ok for one night but I in future I would probably go for the Monopol which seemed nicer (but is more expensive).
