Both my husband and I were charmed by Lucerne the city, the countryside the Swiss Alps. The two day stay made this a wonderful stop on this tour which was exactly what we had hoped for!
We loved our day in Amsterdam ( wish it had be longer) the tour of the city didn't happen until late in the day( this is the day of your arrival so there is free time before the tour~wish that could have been reversed) . Really like the city tour and dinner cruise. Our Tour Director was Dutch so he had much to share about his home town! Boopar was a fun stop the next afternoon. Stops in small German towns were great. ( probably wish I had a little more shopping time but overall there was enough). Absolutely loved 2 days anyplace......Lucerne was my favorite, Paris was great but maybe one tour too many!

This carving in the wall of rock is a sight to see. So sad. It was carved in memory of the more than 760 Swiss soldiers that gave their lives for French King Louis XVI in 1792. It was carved in memory of the mercenary soldiers that gave their lives in loyalty and bravery. Engraved names of the dead are below the sculpture

Very moving piece of art. Conveys emotion. Very glad we took the time to walk to the site in the rain.

Well worth the visit - the ability of the sculptors to convey the emotion of the monument in the face and posture of the Lion is quite remarkable.

Mark Twain said this is the saddest piece of rock ever made. I have to agree. There is just something deeply moving about this beautifully carved monument. Well done and realistic. Even my teenage chid rend were moved by it. Read up about it before you go because there is just about zero information in english about it once you get there.
A nice reflecting ponds guards the base and you can just sit and ponder from a bench if you like. Very easy to walk through in 5 minute if you don't want to.
Take advantage of the monument's proximity to the Glacier Garden to go in there too…well worth the admission (and free if you have a Swiss Pass).
