Stayed for one night July 2012. The location is excellent in the heart of old town by the river. Room was clean but old and shappy, no air conditioning.
Don't bring much luggage with you as you are not able to drive your car to the hotel and the lift is relatively small. For check-in/-out and breakfast you have to go to Best Western hotel (150 m).

Room was clean and relatively large. We were upgraded to the Barock suite, which had a jacuzzi.
The room styling was tacky, not quite our taste. It was very hot in the room, no air conditioning, and from the window come a very nasty smell from the restaurant below (of fried food).
The room is an apartment building, not in a hotel. Check-in and breakfast are at the best western, a block away.
A major gripe was that the elevator door would not open more than a little (without exerting a lot of force), allowing one to enter, but without one's suitcase.
Location is very convenient but the air circulation of the room is not too good. It would be much better to open the windows, yet would be a bit noisy....
Stayed just for one night while exploring Lucerne on an onward travel.
The Magic Hotel was the perfect place as it is central in the old town and very reasonably priced (138 CHF). The rooms are all themed and very large. The furniture though is a bit dated (i.e. simple bed frame, CRT TV). My room (Kings room) had a whirlpool aside the separate shower. Nice for that price!
Breakfast is normal as one could expect in Europe and in the nearby Hotel Krone, a 100m walk.
If one does not object to be in a themed room and have the breakfast somewhere else, one gets big rooms with whirlpools for a cheap price.
I have stayed at the Hotel Magic in December 2011. I have had the "Pirate Room" - it was nice to have a theme room. It's not so boring like many other hotel rooms. The hotel Magic is ideal located in the heart of the oldtown of Lucerne. In December it was quit, but I can imagine, that it is a bit noisy in summer times. It is also in convinient walking distance from the Main Railway Station. Unfortunatelly the free Wifi didn't worked. The breakfast is at the nearby Best Western Hotel Krone and was good in variety and quality.
First the location: couldn't be better. Historic centre, facing a really nice square, close to everything. The rooms have different themes, a bit kitsch but comfortable and spacious. The breakfast, while being served in another location (where the reception is located) is good. Great free wi-fi. Not expensive for Switzerland at all.
But it's a fact that the area is noisy at night, you feel like you are in Spain with all the noise people make coming out of bars and talking loud in the street at night. Another strange aspect is that the rooms are very hot even though there is no a/c, so while I stayed at the hotel in late November and might have appreciated the warmth, it was too much so I had to leave the window open to be able to breath, therefore the noise became worse.
All in all, if you get a cheap price it's OK for a short city break.
