Owner description: Around 735/736, southern German nobles founded a small monastery at the site of today's Hof area, which was dedicated to St Mauritius. Around 1135, the autonomous monastery was attached to the Provostship of Murbach (Alsace) and St Leger was named patron of the church. In 1291, the Abbey of Murbach was forced to sell the Provost's Church and its belongings to the Habsburgs. In 1332, Lucerne joined the Helvetic Confederation. By 1433, the City of Lucerne had regained its rights from the Habsburgs, including those affecting the mo- nastery. In 1455/56, the Benedictine monastery was converted into a convent of Canon Regulars. Since then, the Canon Regulars have devoted themselves to the Liturgy of the Hours every day in the mornings and evenings. On Easter Sunday 1633, the church was burned to its foundations. The Jesuit Brother Ja- kob Kurrer from Ingolstadt was charged with the reconstruction of the church. Its consecration took place after the installation of the art works in 1644.

Nice and quite church near lucerne lake. Standing tall and elegant, well maintained. It's a worth watch and the interiors are pretty good.

This is a pretty neat church and worth a short visit. We actually stop at the church after visiting the Dying Lion of Lucerne on the way back to the dock to catch a ride on a boat tour of the lake. The church can be seen all over the city and the grounds around the church are nice. There are also several restaurants real close to the church if you need to get a snack or eat lunch.

This can be clearly seen from most of Lucerne, and its twin spires attract immediate attention. It is fairly plain on the outside, but inside is a fantastic transformation, and the décor is breathtaking - There is a cemetery around the church which is well maintained, and it is interesting to walk round

This is one of the sights that visitors to Lucerne should take in. Though the double spires of the church are eye-catching, they pale to the splendor that one finds when inside. The entrance to the church is through a massive carved wooden door. Inside, the main altar and the sides altar are absolutely spectacular. The ends of the pews also have intricately carved wooden details. Massive organs on the upper level provide a rich sound. Outside, one can walk the grounds where several generations of Swiss residents of Lucerne are interred. It is well worth a short visit.

The is a very impressive church built on a hill at the edge of Old Town Lucerne. While it isn't a ornate on both the interior and exterior of Jesuitenkirche, it definitely has its own charm. The exterior is surrounded on 3 sides by a cemetery which is an interesting walk in its own right since you can explore the vast age difference in burials. The interior of the church is mainly white and the only parts of color you see are at the alters, pulpit, and the organ. While there make sure you check out the ornate wood carving on the doors.
