My mom and I stayed at Hotel Pickwick in early June 2007. We booked it because we were on a budget and trying to stay as close to a 100 dollars a night as possible. We were treated very well by the staff from the moment we checked in at the bar downstairs. We had a nice, clean room with two twin beds positioned head to toe. We had our own bathroom as well. The view from our room overlooking Lucerne's famous wooden bridge was priceless! The hotel is right in the heart of Lucerne...a close walk to everything! The train station is a short walk across the beautiful wooden bridge. Our first night we couldn't believe how popular the bar downstairs was! It is THE happening place in Lucerne! We were worried about the noise level when we wanted to sleep the first night since we had a room right over the bar. It was very loud, but the bar only stays open until 12:30a.m., so it was temporary. The second and third night we never had a problem with the noise because we met so many Americans during our stay that we were all at the bar together having a great time! We met so many wonderful people by staying at Hotel Pickwick that it was like a home away from home. The free internet was the first we'd seen in all of Europe. I will definitely stay there again as soon as I can! The only thing I would recommend if you want to sleep before midnight is to get a room on a high floor on the opposite side of the bar. Have a great time!

Stayed here in a twin with shower in October 2006-very happy. Great location overlooking the river Reuses and the Chapel bridge (next door to Hotel Alpha and Starbucks). 10-15 mins walk from the train station across the bridge, so leave large bags at the station and pack light for the night. Small but clean & comfortable room with necessary amenities provided. Day time room can be warm (with the floor to ceiling window facing the sun). Hotel reception/entrance at the back of the building but need to check in at the pub. Washing machine facility but didn’t check out. Will definitely stay here again on our next visit.

Our room at the Pickwick was very comfortable and very clean. The location is excellent - our room overlooked the river and the old bridge. The room was big, bright and had 2 windows which we could open. The beds were very comfortable. We took a room without a bathroom, but there were 3 on the floor so that was not a problem. There was a sink in the room, as well as a table and chairs so that we could make our own picnic breakfast or lunch. There is also a safe in the room.

There is no one at the reception area so you check in at the pub downstairs. This was fine with us since we don't need a lot of personal attention from the staff. The people there were very helpful and friendly checking us in and answering questions.

This is a basic hotel, but for the price, location and quality of the room it was excellent.

We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay here again.

Please do not stay at this place. The staff here is the worst I have seen among all the places i have travelled in the world. They are too busy making their money in the pub and care less about whatever is having to the room owners. Overall, they were very rude and arrogant.

I travelled with my wife and 4 year old son and had booked a double room. On arrival, they forced me to pay 25 FRancs / day for my son while they did not provide an extra bed. When asked why they charged the extra money espcecially when they do not provide an extra bed, we were told that the 4 year old also uses extra water and towels (By the way, on none of the 3 days we stayed did they provide an extra towel).

They have a separate lobby area for the hotel, but there is never a person there. They make everyone work at the pub, and when you go to ask them any question in the pub, you are straightaway told that they are too busy making money in the pub and not to disturb them.

Also, their room policy clearly states that when you stay multiple days, the money is due on the last day. But they made us pay upfront for all days as soon as we checked-in.

We had a very good stay at the Hotel Mr. Pickwick. It is described as a British pub as it has British food and drink and the staff all speak english very well.

When we were here we found the staff very friendly and helpful. The first night we stayed they did not the available rooms for the way we wouldve liked to stay, but they were very helpful and were able to accommodate us differently this night and arrange it the way we would of prefered after this night.

The view from the hotel was lovely overlooking the water. It is also in a good location for tourists as it is only a 5 minute walk from the train station and where you can get a trip on a tourist boat on the lake.

We ate in Hotel Mr. Pickwick every night when we were there as the food was lovely and both food and drink was reasonably priced as far as buying food and drink in switcherland goes as it is a very expensive country.

If I ever go back to Switcherland I would definitely stay here again. There was 6 of us stayed here and we all agreed that we would stay again.

We had an awful experience at the Hotel Mr. Pickwick. To begin with we checked in at a pub bar because no one ever works the reception desk. So not very friendly bar men check you in and escort you to your room.

We were two girls traveling alone, somewhat on a budget, and we did not feel safe or comfortable here. Our room was small, with holes in the walls, no decorations. We wouldn't have minded so much except NO ONE ELSE SEEMED TO STAY AT THIS HOTEL. It was the first week of June in a town populated by tourists and literally no one else was on staying on our floor.

The hotel looks adorable from the outside and granted we had a breathtaking view. The barman opened windows/ doors to a small balcony overlooking the water - it was gorgeous. Just one problem by leaving the windows open hundreds of bugs invaded our room. There is not any air conditioning so you either don't have ventalation or you get bugs - trust me don't pick the bugs.

Overall, just don't stay here. If you are used to rugged hostels then it is probably equivalent to that - but for what you pay it is not worth it.
