After arriving at Lucerne station with suitcases and cabin bags we found the Raddison Blu just a short walk along a smooth bitumen footpath. Whilst the hotel itself was a bit hit & miss the location was brilliant as it was both close to the train station but also to the water bus station that has you traversing Lake Lucerne in just a few minutes.
On our arrival at 2.30 we were eventually greeted by the statement that check in is at 3pm and your room is not ready until then. This goes against the managements statement of a 'Yes we can' attitude as the hotel has barely any guests the 3 nights of our stay. We dutifully left our cases and headed off to look around the empty town on a Sunday. On our return the room was ready, the rooms are really quite large and the styling a bit out there and the non lake view rooms have a rather drab outlook on another building, looks like a school/university?
Housekeeping needs a shake up as we were rationed to 1 cake of soap, for shower & hand basin for our stay, only 'herbal' tea bags, no replacement of used coffee/sweeteners & the room was never cleaned over those 3 days, just the bathroom wiped down & the towels replaced and the bedding made. We had a king size bed but were surprised that the duvet did not even reach the sides of the bed, let alone was completely inadequate once 2 people were under it. We requested and eventually received an extra duvet, so that we could both be covered. This confused housekeeping who just folded them up each day, as they obviously had no idea what to do with 2.
Apart from the above some lights in the room did not work, however there was an iron & ironing board to get those crumpled clothes ironed out. Bed and pillows were great and we had a wonderful sleep whilst we were there, in combination with the shutters and curtains.
Fitness centre had a selection of equipment to enable an effective workout though only 1 treadmill(always popular) plus a steam room and 2 saunas, which was much appreciated.
We did not dine at the 'Luce' restaurant although the menu did look inviting as we were always getting back to Lucerne in the evening around dinner time.
A good hotel but can do with some improvement but in an excellent location close to everything.
