“Good business like hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2008

Stayed severald times at this Hotel and was always pleased with the service of it. You'll find a nice fitness room and as well the hammam & sauna's. The rooms are clean and confortable. I never tried the restaurants as I preferred to walk to the city center. This hotel is good for business and goind to the KKK (opera) as it is right next to it.

  • Liked — Rooms, fitness room
  • Disliked — A bit too far from the city center (15 min walk)

Radisson is a good place to stay if you are alone and on business, but I would definately not recommend for a couple or for tourists.

The room itself was nicely furnished with modern decor. BUT There were 2 main things that really disappointed me about the room......I consider them majors -- the bathroom and the bed.

Bathroom first, this is the second Radisson I have stayed in with a glass walled bathroom. Pointless and stupid. This arrangement is entirely impractical when one person is using the bathroom/shower and another person is trying to sleep. Turning on the bathroom light illuminates the entire room. I wish Radisson would get rid of this 'feature' and I would not stay in a Radisson again where the bathroom was essentially a stupid glass box.

The bed was actually two separate beds pushed together. They weren't zipped together and made as one bed -- they were two individually made beds pushed together. Not romantic at all. What is the point of even bothering to push two separate beds together? The beds don't suddenly become one -- they are still two separate beds that will slide apart. Again, so stupid.

Its possible there are no double/queen/king rooms at all. Twin room was the only choice when booking direct on the radisson goldpointsplus website. Finally, (this may be a minor point) but the beds were made without top sheets. There is a sheet that covers the mattress and a quilt/duvet -- but there is no sheet between you and the quilt.

There were adjustable reading lamps beside the bed, although the neck on one was broken. Lighting itself was excellent, with plenty of lamps. Wifi coverage was also very good. Towels thin, but clean good size and abosorbant.

The coolest thing about the room was the multicolored electrically controlled window shades that floated between the interior wall and the external buildings' glass membrane. Best appreciated from outside the hotel, where it made the hotel look like a checkerboard of random colors.

Service from the hotel staff was very good, and in clear english.

The was no free "Grab and Run" (coffee and a roll to go) breakfast. This was advertised on their website and in the in room literature. Misrepresentation very disappointing. The hotel buffet breakfast was tasty, good quality and variety -- but you pay 27chf for this.

Location is very convenient to the main train station and music hall, I would say its a 4-5 minute walk as you have to walk all they way around the outside perimeter of the train station to get there. In fact, our room was located above the very end of the tracks at the far end of the station where they store trains. Thankfully, we never heard or felt trains coming or going. This hotel is not 'absolute' lakefront, the lake is across a road. I would describe it as 'adjacent to the lake' but not ON the lake.

It has lake views from some rooms, but not all. My room was on the top floor and had a lake view, but in order to get this view we had to walk a very long way from the lift to our room. This hotel is not in the middle of nowhere, there are many better located hotels for both lake access, tourist spot access, and train station access.

  • Liked — Funky modern decor
  • Disliked — transparent glass walls in the bathroom

I stayed here with my 3 teenaged daughters in Summer. We arrived by train from Paris, and this hotel is perfectly located right next to the train station so it was an easy 5 minute walk to the front door. The hotel is on the opposite side of the lake to the old central city, but it is a beautiful easy walk of around 10 minutes to cross over. We paid extra for lake view rooms (335 CHF) and I think this was really worth it as the views are gorgeous through the huge picture windows. The rooms are clean and have very modern aesthetic furnishings. The beds are supremely comfortable and have the most fabulous doonas and soft feather pillows. The bathrooms have an over bath shower with good pressure, and the toiletries are good quality. The buffet breakfast cost extra but was good quality. We loved our stay here. Something really fun that we did in Lucerne was go to the lake baths where there is a bar and great area for enjoying the lake and its views of the surrounding snowcapped mountains, while the girls swam in the crystal clear water.

  • Disliked — paying extra for the buffet breakfast

This was our second stay at this hotel, this time for 2 nights on our way into the Alps. We thoroughly recommend. The staff are excellent (receptionists all speak perfect English - although maids o not) and will try to help you in whatever way possible. Car park under hotel so very convenient and cost can be added to your bill. Views are amongst the best in Luzern as you get a direct lake view from most of the rooms, which are modern and clean. As mentioned in the title, the location is ideal. About 1 minute to the station and 3 minutes to city centre, and yet very quiet. You do need to stipulate that you need a bath if you want one, as some (most) rooms have a walk-in shower but that seems to be quite usual in Switzerland. Why waste time in the bath when you can shower and go and make more money in the time you are saving!! Breakfast is a very high quality buffet with "stations" for eggs and waffles etc and again no complaints about the staff. It is interesting that the hotel attracts lots of rich-looking Arab clients and that for us is a good indicator of the quality of the place. Given the range of hotels available, they (or their staff) had chosen this place. I would recommend this hotel for a business trip as much as for a family stay.

Lucerne was experiencing 30'C weather when we arrived. Feeling exhausted from our flight, the service at reception was friendly & efficient and our whole group (total of 8 people) sped through check-in quite quickly.
But what I really like about this place is its location - its right next to the lake but out of the way from the tourist traffic.
So in the summer you can sip Mojitos outside the hotel bar, relax and watch the party crowd of Lucerne head towards the beach bar located right next to the hotel!!

The Radisson is ideally positioned for a weary business traveller who wants to 'spice' up a boring business trip!

I experienced several ”problems” at this hotel. Problems that shouldn’t exist at a 4 star hotel. I was thinking about writing a long introduction, but how wants to read that? Instead I present you the issues had when staying at the hotel:

1. Room Service
They didn’t refill the minibar… (don’t they want to make money?) It took about 30-45 minutes before a person showed up.

2. Room Service – again
The hotel has this ”nice” one touch on the hotel phone, which should ”solve” all your problems. Well not quite. I needed some food and tried the ”one touch” service, and nothing happened…. So I called the hotel using my mobile phone and ordered food.

3. Room Service – again, again
I tired to order food 09:55 p.m. In the leaflet it says that the kitchen closes at 10:00 p.m. Do you see the problem? Well I didn’t. There are some items on the menu you can’t order when its close to 10:00 p.m. And how close that is, I don’t know. But it was the first time for me. (And last at this hotel, because I’m not coming back. Next time I’ll try a hotel on the top 10 from TripAdvisor [-].

… other wise, I got two parking tickets. Be sure to use the underground garage if you bring a car.

Internet is free and works perfectly. Ops… I almost forgot; don’t arrive to late for breakfast as buffet will be close to empty.

Enjoy your stay.

They promise “100% guest satisfaction” and if your not, you don’t have to pay. I try that tomorrow (I’m writing this review while staying at the hotel.. I ordered pizza 43 minutes ago and it hasn’t arrived yet!!)

Great location, within short walking distance of all the important sights. Hotel room was impeccably clean, loved the transparent wall between the bathroom & bedroom. Decor was sort of Danish modern with all the latest high tech stuff. Figuring out how the lighting and heating systems worked took a little time (must leave your room key in the control box at the door). Some direction & explanation at check-in time would have helped. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Wide variety and good quality. You'll need to like modern to really appreciate this hotel. I would recommend it to anyone coming here for business or pleasure.
