“Charming”
Reviewed 4 October 2010

I visited Lucerne as part of a tour organised by Treyn Holidays. We had about 5 hours free time in Lucerne. The weather unfortunately was overcast and therefore a visit to Mount Pilatus or Rigi was not possible and instead I, and others, took one of the regular service boats for a 2 hour trip around the lake calling at various stops, the furthest being Stansstad. The boat ride was smooth, the hot chocolate (CHF 4.20) excellent and the boat (Mount Pilatus) was clean and comfortable. Afterwards I walked over the Chapel Bridge (a must) and meandered through the old town.

“spectacular city”
Reviewed 26 August 2010

Lucerne like so many other cities in Switzerland is right next a big river. Where you can take a boot trip and enjoy your day. There are also Hop on/ Hop off buses if you prefer to take a dryer tour of the city. The restaurants are good specially if your are looking foward to trying swiss food. However, they do have international food and of course mcdonalds if you are afraid to try anything new.

“Beautiful, and expensive”
Reviewed 21 August 2010

We stayed in a static caravan on a campsite on the edge of the city. It was very basic, but the only thing we could find that was affordable. Lucerne/Luzern is a beautiful city, and the lake, mountains, and city are spectacular. A highlight was a trip up mount Pilatus (walked part of it, cable car to the very top).

“Lucerne - Jewel of Switzerland”
Reviewed 31 July 2010

We visited Lucerne, Bern, Murten, Montrieux and Geneva in July. Lucerne is a beautiful city with excellent hotels and dining and will situated to hike and visit the nearby mountains. We did take the cable car up and down Mt. Pilatus (7000') which offers beautiful views of Lucerne and the Lake. It was our favorite city of the 3 major ones we stayed in - Lucerne, Bern and Geneva. Switzerland though is definitely more expensive that Italy and Austria were.

“Lakes, mountains, bustle or serenity - We've found it all here.”
Reviewed 22 July 2010

Most people will arrive by train. As soon as you step onto the station concourse, that 'It's great to be back' feeling overwhelms you. If you've already chosen your place to stay, its just a short walk to the taxi rank, bus terminal or ferry station. With hardly any waiting time, your soon on the next leg of your journey.

If you have chosen to stay within the city limits, you have an amazing choice from 5 star lakeside luxury to backpackers hostels just around the corner from the station.

Strolling around the streets, checking out the shops or just gazing at the familiar historical sites - Chaple bridge, dying lion, city walls - it can all be done at a relaxed leasurly pace. Yet at night, it livens up with resraurants and bars tempting you in with culinary smells and no too intrusive music.

We love to ride the lake steamers, stop off at some small lakeside town and just walk up into the hills. Our idea of paradise on Earth. Weggis is a particular favourite, just a short journey from Lucerne, large enough to have a good choice of places to eat and plenty of footpaths either along the lake or into the trees.

An ideal location and so accessable. Loveit - love it - love it.
