This is a lovely boutique hotel in a beautiful wooded setting with a running creek right nearby. The hotel also has a restaurant and a gorgeous outside terrace, perfect for relaxing and having a glass of wine, or two!
Polite, efficient, kind and professional reception, and meticulous and courteous hotel staff.
Would highly recommend this hotel for a romantic weekend, or just a relaxing getaway.

My colleague booked us into this hotel for 2 nights when we were attending a conference here. It seems to be more well known as a restaurant from what I hear, but also have 10 rooms for guests. Since the hotel is located out of the centre, I took a taxi from the train station which cost me around 22 francs.

I arrived first but I kindly left the suite to my colleague who had booked us in. I instead took a regular room. To be honest, I really don't see how much better the suite would have been (other than the fireplace that my colleague kept bragging about in his suite!). The room was huge, very charming, nice wooden floors and furniture, heated tiles in the bathroom with a huge bathtub and a comfortable sitting area. It was clean and the little chocolate sample they leave for the guest is a nice touch. Staff were very friendly.

Wifi was free and worked well. Breakfast was nice too with a good variety of mostly cold breakfast foods (bread, fruit salad, cheeses, cold meats, yogurt and with eggs as the only hot food).

The only downside for this place was the location. It is in a more industrial area and although near a bus stop and also a walkable distance to town, it is not the prettiest walk (for us however, this was less of an issue since we were there for work with a car). Our only regret was not being able to try eating at the restaurant for dinner!

If you are looking for a more unique accommodation experience instead of the more generic large hotels and have the convenience of a car, I would recommend this place.

Beautiful room, nicely decorated. Nice breakfast. Outside our room was a waterfall, which was nice to listen to and look at through the window. This is in a historic building, previously a brewery and mill. On the down side, however, it is difficult to get to, with a very obscure and twisty-turny route to get there. Its location is on the edge of town in a kind of industrial area, so there is little of interest within walking distance. The hotel restaurant looked fabulous, but the prices were insanely expensive, so we did not eat there. Once we figured out the route to get in and out by car, it was okay, and driving downtown took only a few minutes, where parking garages were easily available. Free wifi internet worked very well.

I stayed here for 2 nights last week. On the 2nd night I returned to the hotel at 1am and the front door was lacked. Despite hammering on the door and windows plus telephoning the front desk, nobody came to open the door. It is clear that there are no hotel staff on site overnight which doesn't seem correct from a safety perspective.

So at 1.30am I had to call a taxi and check in to the Beau Rivage at 307CHF for a brief sleep. I then went back to the Maison du Prussien the next morning to be toled by the lady on the front desk that the "front door was open when she checked at 6.30am". She also advised that there is a notice on the front door advising residents not to lock the front door.

Eventually they agreed to waive my 2nd nights room charge however, this didn't really compensate for the disruption and the additional costs I incurred at the Beau Rivage (which is a lovely hotel by the way where the staff were excellent).

Unique rooms next to 'noisy' stream so keep the windows shut! A little way out of town - 2 miles which is a shame as the place is definitely worth a visit. We only had a couple of hours and that wasn't enough to see everything. Stunning historic old town. Sadly we went on a Sunday so everything shut. Had very expensive meal in hotel restaurant which is Michelin starred. Steak was 74 swiss francs!! Fancy food and fabulous cheese trolley.Breakfast was first class.

Room Tip: try to be as far away from noisy stream as possible

As the title says, the hotel has its good points and its - well - other points.

It´s in a historic building, and has just a small number of rooms, each unique in its own way, and tastefully decorated. So maybe the bathroom fiitings are a little out of date, but you get a good-sized and very attractive room for a - reasonable - price. Breakfast is ok, but the size of the hotel means that they are often preparing for a small number of guests, so the variety is maybe not huge. But I enjoyed it.

The restaurant - not tried - has the reputation of being very good - and correspondingly expensive. I´ll try it some time.

Now the buts: Sadly, this historic watermill is in a valley surrounded on all sides by industrial zone-style buildings, a railway line, roads and a motorway. There´s nothing they can do about it, but the contrast gave me personally a shock when I saw it. The noise of the river behind drowns out a lot of the traffic, but not all of it.

Room Tip: They are all different - why not call and ask what they have available?

I would recommend this hotel with some significant qualifications: first, it is a bit out of the way, as others have noted. You can get to the center of town or the lake by taxi for about $20 USD or by bus for $3 or so. My biggest problem with the hotel was the wifi, the signal for which was at first nonexistent and after some rebooting of the router remained weak enough to be an ongoing issue. This may not be a concern for many, but since holidays are always working holidays for me, it is quite a negative and I spent a few nervous hours wondering if I was going to deal with the major and exhausting inconvenience of cancelling and finding other accommodations. Even after resolution, the internet remained so slow due to the weakness of the signal as to impact my work.

On the positive side, the hotel is a lovely old manse of some 300 plus years in age. It was originally a mill, and the mill-wheel and its works are still charmingly visible on the stream on which the house is built. The building and immediate surroundings are picturesque, and we enjoyed one of the suites on the top floor with wood-beamed ceilings. The restaurant is excellent if a bit pricy for dinner, breakfast is great, and above all the staff is helpful and caring. One feels, in a way, as if staying in an old inn with a kind and helpful innkeeper. Much recommended if connectivity is not a concern.
