“Best hotel in town”
Reviewed 6 March 2012

I have stayed many times at this hotel and had mixed experiences. My first stay was in 2005 and it was simply fantastic. Over the years I stayed about 6-7 times per year and in the years following 2005 I found that the service quality declined. Meanwhile personally knowing all of the service staff I talked about some of the issues I had. They told me they were evaluating a lot of the choices they had made and that improvements are on the way.
Luckily, they kept their word. Today, this hotel is one of my favorites. The staff is always friendly, the rooms are nice and technically up to date. Most of all internet is free of charge. Bed and bath are clean and comfortable.
The breakfast buffet offers more than enough choices. Room service is great.

Room Tip: All rooms are of the same quality. Some rooms have showers, some tubs. If you have a preference, ask...

We were gifted a night at this hotel, and showed up not having much in mind. We found out we were in "Business Class" type room, which was nice and comfortable. The staff was very attentive and friendly, and the dinner we had at the restaurant Olive was great. We are not the type of couple that enjoys casinos but we enjoyed taking our "starter"/ free introduction chips without getting carried away. The town is pretty, and there are opportunities for walks through beautiful winter forest around. Breakfast was great, and the best thing is we got "late checkout" so we could lay around, visit the sauna, and read until 6pm. We were pleasantly surprised at the overall quality of the experience, and would recommend it heartily.

The hotel is good, with a nice and clean infrastructure. Rooms are big, functional, have good lighting and free wifi. The restaurant is great with a variety choice and good and healthy breakfast. There is a small workout room and a small sauna that can be used upon discretion. For those interested, there is also a casino with usual games.
My wife and I booked a weekend package; hotel staff was outwitted by it. They did not know what the package was and were not prepared to offer all features. There were small problems like the restaurant wanting to bill us separately although meals were included in the package. The other problem was the hotel’s lack of knowledge regarding local hikes although the package was hike-themed – indeed, its name is “local hikes”!
Staff tried to smooth things out, but they were simply unprepared and sometimes - due to this pressure - unfriednly.

Stayed here as a conference base. Nice hotel. Rooms very nice and quiet. Staff friendly and helpful. Restaurant on site a little pricey but very good. Has a casino but did not use it. 5 or 10 minute walk to the main town so easy to go out to the multitude of eateries in the town. Puzzled that previous reviewer said it was a long way from town - 5 minutes is not a long way.

Overall I was very satisfied with my weekend stay.

I chose this hotel as it was a Radisson Blu property - a brand which I usually trust. Booked my room on Radisson own website - price was not that cheap but remained reasonable by Swiss standards.

If you arrive by train, it is easier to take tram line 3 to the hotel. Travel time from the railway station is around 10 mins.

Check-in was quick and I felt welcome - a HUGE thumbs-up regarding staff friendliness and efficiency during my entire stay. The room was quite spacious and functional with a nice view over St Gallen and the surrounding hills. I was pleasantly surprised by the amenities: flat-screen TV, coffee-making facilities, individual air-conditioning, large desk with a chair. Very comfortable King-sized bed with firm mattress and fluffy pillows. All equipment were working properly.
Bathroom spotlessly clean and adequate - however it feels a bit cramped due to the shower being quite large.

Breakfast buffet is expensive (35CHF) but opulent and tasty. Good offering of cold cuts, smoked salmon, various cheese, yoghurts, cereals, fresh fruit salad. The muesli tasted quite fresh. Warm food included bacon, sausages and tasty scrambled eggs. Breakfast room was bright, staff efficient and unobstrusive.
On the downside tables are rather close to each other so that you can not move around freely. Newspapers available but only in German.

I ordered room service for dinner. Good service with reasonable waiting time of 25 minutes. Main dish (veal stripes in mushroom sauce) and dessert (creme brulee) were delicious.

There are two Internet computers in the lobby. Access to the airline websites is free (very practical for online check-in), otherwise it costs a rather hefty 0.60CHF/min.

All in all I can warmly recommend this hotel for its great staff and very comfortable room. However room price is not cheap - it is better to keep an eye for promotional offers or discounted weekend rates.

Hotel is right next to the Brewery and their shop, close to the centre and walking distance to all the attractions. We were lucky enough to experience St.Gallen Fest , when the city was full of concerts and the hotel was a great place to stay-close to the centre yet far enough from the noise. ur room was comfortable and clean, and also quiet, my husband and I slept very well. Full breakfast buffet is expensive but worth it, really good selection of food.

The staff was very nice and went far beyond expected levels of service. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and well designed. Too bad the hotel is really far from the centre with nothing interesting within walking distance. We were in St Gallen for Aug 1st, the Swiss national holiday, and the city was shockingly quiet in the evening. We had to go to the Bodensee resorts to find some action...
Hotel parking and breakfast are outrageously expensive: we skipped both and parked in a nearby public parking. Altogether we still had a nice stay.
