The hotel is nice, rooms though are not standard and sometimes it depends on luck if you get a room. Still I find it better than others in Schaffhausen. Breakfast is nice, although limited option for a vegetarian. Bathrooms are pretty small. The owners do most of the work and are pretty nice people. Overall, a recommended place to stay. The best in Schaffhausen.

don't get confused because of the pictures, I can assure you its one of the finest hotel you will find in the area. the location is great, few minutes drive (or even walk 30 min) from the Rhine Falls. you will have Rhine view from the lobby. the service is very good, excellent rooms. its not a 5 stars luxury hotel but you will feel very special.

This extraordinary hotel is actually both. Whether it is by design or just a matter of bad taste is difficult to determine, but in any case it is well worth the experience of spending a night there if you are visiting the very attractive town of Schaffhausen and the surrounding area. The dinner was good, breakfast better !! The staff reasonably friendly but rather reflecting the whole atmosphere of the hotel

The hotel is different to most I stayed in, it is quirky but in a nice way.

The owners make you feel so welcome and there is a friendly atmosphere at all times. I had a wonderful large suite but be aware not all rooms are the same.
Only downside is that it is close to the rail so can be noisy especially if window slightly open, but with no air conditioning it is a trade off
Check out was again very good with a free bar of chocolate and a nice big smile.

For Schaffhausen I rate this a 4 but Swiss prices make it difficult to justify higher.

This hotel is walking distance from Schaffhausen and is situated in a lovely old house that is literally crammed with kitsch. From the piles of bottles and boxes of chocolates that greet you in the reception area to the glass fronted cabinet stuffed with dusty old dolls and knick knacks that incongruously sit along side ancient ivory tusks in the dining room, which, with its oddly patterned walls and carpet, is all a bit much for me at breakfast, but I appreciate some people might find it charming or quaint.
The rooms are all different, I have stayed several times and most rooms are a very good size, but a four poster bed was the central feature of the room I was in last, it was too small to sleep in so a kingsize bed is also in the room right next to the fire place without room for a bedside table or lamp and as the tv is on the same wall you can't sit in bed and watch tv. While antiques are a perfectly nice adornment a useless old bed is a bit of a white elephant with its torn mattress and impracticality. Maybe it could be put in a child's room (am sure the adults it was built for in 1821 were a lot shorter than the giants that travel today). This is a wonderful old house, historic, and could be so much more if the owners would invest the money and upgrade it to meet modern aesthetics. I am sure people will disagree with this review but its just my personal preference. The hotel is well located for both train station and a walk into town.

Room Tip: There is a room in the basement with a lovely big old bathtub, it has a separate entrance that shoul...

This hotel is out of the ordinary in an excellent way. We had a very large room which had a private bathroom just outside the bedroom door; we also reached the room by a separate elevator from the outside - it also served other rooms but we never saw anyone else. The room was very comfortable and looked out onto the beautiful park opposite. The hotel itself is on a very quiet street but very close to both downtown and the station; we arrived by bicycle and it was easy to get to from the Rhein Falls using a bike/pedestrian bridge.
The staff were very friendly - and they sell local chocolates and wine in the lobby - an example of the quaintness of the place. We sampled a bottle in the open air restaurant and the service was good.
The buffet breakfast was also excellent with both great variety and quality. Overall, we didn't realize we were staying at the top-rated hotel in the city but we would support that assessment; and at a very reasonable price for the location.

Our usual company preferred hotel was fully booked so we checked into here for the one night we needed a place to stay. We were not disappointed as my colleagues and I loved the old decor, the quaint rooms, the very scrumptious breakfast and dinners (there is also a restaurant in the hotel but dinners have to be reserved so the kitchen can provide adequate service). While the location is not in the central, Schaffhausen is quite small so the hotel was still in walking distance to the train station, bus stops and taxi ranks and other restaurants.
