Visiting Niesen mountain was really the highlight of our Bern trip.
What I liked about Niesen:
1. It's not so high compared to the other mountains in Alps, so thbe journey to the top was not exhausting specially we had kids with us.
2. it's very near to Bern, around 30 minutes by Car, so it's suitable for half day visit.
3. we Enjoyed our time with the magnificent views, and we were lucky that the weather was clear.
4. The restaurant on the top was excellent place, with nice and friendly staff and warm atmosphere.

Absolutely stunning view of the swiss alps. Once on Top the 360 view is one of the most spectacular in the alps

Nice friendly staff that give you lots of information’s. It is an insider tip. Why spend three times the price in a packed cabin with or train, when you can have it cheaper and just as nice, if not better. Why? You can see the Alps so close that you think you can touch them. The restaurant at the top of the Niesen is a must. The trip to the top is amazing with its 68% gradient!!

The Niesen, in our view, was more enjoyable than the Jungfraujoch which we had 'done' the day before. With half-fare Swiss Card the ticket from Interlaken West to Mulenen then funicular up to the kulm cost SFR 40 per person. You have to request the train to stop at Mulenen. This is a rather old-fashioned attraction, distinctly un-trendy, and all the better for it in our view. It opened in 1910.
On the Saturday of our visit in June 2012 all the other visitors seemed to be locals, families and couples out for the day. The bar/restaurant drinks and meals were reasonably priced, and the panorama is stunning: from the relatively flat lands to the north to the Oberland giants to the south. Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn, Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau and so round to the Kander valley and the Blumlisalp are seen in their majesty. As the railway slowly ascends the view gets better and better. I feel that mountains are better viewed like this than from close-up.
With Jungfraujoch, the section from Kleiner Scheidegg to the joch itself is 35 minutes of tunnel.
Miraculous engineering of course, but boring. And at the top, huge crowds jostling for position to take pictures of the ice-desert and a view that is frankly an anticlimax. The ride up and down between Interlaken and Scheidegg via Grindelwald or Wengen is the best part. Above the timber-line the environment is barren and hostile.
See the videos of both trips on Youtube and you may see what I mean.

Trip to Niesen was one of the most amazing experience I ever had. To reach Mount Niesen one has to take the Funicular Ride, which is quite exciting (30 Mins ride).

Worlds longest stairway and Europe's Longest funicular ride will take you to reach the TOP. From there one can have the most fascinating view of Mount Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Also there is a mountain restaurant with panoramic view. This place is also known as Swiss Pyramid.
