Owner description: One of the most spectacular ways to cross the Alps: the Bernina Express from Chur/Davos to Tirano (via St. Moritz) links up regions with different languages and cultures. This is not a rack railway and the train winds its way gently through splendid scenery. One of the highlights is the panoramic journey through the UNESCO World Heritage RhB. On the highest railway across the Alps, the Bernina Express climbs up to the glistening glaciers before descending to the palms of Italy far below. This rail link between Northern and Southern Europe builds bridges between regions with different languages and cultures.

This is how it was described in their leaflet prior to my journey.
I would like to consider myself well travelled and this has to be one of the most spectacular journeys I have been fortunate to have experienced so far.
I travelled from Davos to Tirano and back.
A total of 8 hours on a train.........but oh what a journey, worth every penny.
The first half of the journey took 4hours and passed through St. Moritz and Poschiavo to Tirano where we stopped for two hours for lunch and a brief view of the town before returning to Davos.
The journey was spectacular and I would happily do it again and again, however, it was a very long journey and if I were honest, which incidentally I am, I would choose a different time of year, having now done the summer, to view it with snow on the ground and return from Tirano by road, just for the contrast really.

Yes this is a long train ride – 4hrs but worth it for the most spectacular views of a lifetime of the Alps. Make you’re your camera battery is fully charged, as you will be taking lots of photos! Train stops for 20 minutes at a certain point and you can take photos of the mountain ranges and a pristine lake in the distance. At this stop there is also a small restaurant/shop where you can get a bite, buy snacks, and use the toilet facilities. BTW if booking this adventure online – the online “reservation” you make is not the ticket but just to reserve your train seats for a particular trip. You must pay for the actual tickets at the station in Chur or Milan or you can buy them on the train from the conductor.

We took the Bernina Express from Torino up to St Moritz and descended via coach down the frightening pass. Photo opportunities at every turn and on either side kept everyone busy. The train was comfortable and didn't have the terror associated with the cog wheel ratchet railways found in other areas. Being on an excursion to a set timetable, our only regret was that we couldn't spend more time in Torino and St Moritz as well as the little stops along the way. Two enterprising young lads sold us ice creams on board. Express is a misnomer as speed is not the priority as you wind your way up, round, over and under to make the journey. A photographer's dream!

Traveled from Pschaivo to Bernina Diavolezza on this train and the scenery is stunning the whole way. This part of the route is the most picturesque and exciting! The views down to Tirano and the lake are beautiful and the train then snakes back and forth to climb to the highest point. Largo Blanc (the glacial lake) is out of this world and the views of the glaciers in this part are breath taking. I would recommend the trip unreservedly to anyone going to this part of the world. We carried on by coach to St Moritz but very unimpressive and ridiculously expensive - not the highlight of the trip!

We ordered tickets from Viator.com and went to the Torino train station by coach from Milan. The experience is one we will never forget, the views are spectacular and breath taking. Heaven for people who love photography, the train ride is amazing. The town of St Moritz is quaint and yet fabulous. The people are friendly...great for chocolate lovers. The tour guide was excellent, friendly and in great spirits which made this journey all the more exciting.
